I would have bought the 2 person, but my wife only wanted one paddle.

Not sure what she meant by that

p.3 #8 · How do YOU Yak

Hello yakkers, I just recently picked up an Old Town Loon 138T (tandem). Just spent three days out in it so limited experience but can relate to many things mentioned so far.

First paddle drip, seems longer paddles require lesser of an angle to paddle. Mine are 230cm, also I noticed I had my drip rings too far toward the paddle and they were grabbing water rather than shedding so I moved them up the paddle just so they don't enter the water.

I have a LowePro all-weather trekker backpak for my gear that is water repellent, it sits between my legs and I set it on a think flotation cushion so it is not on the bottom of the yak and also keep a towel on it for padding as I lay my camera on top of it. I have plenty of cockpit rise so it is below level for safety and after a bit of experimentation paddle drip is almost non-existent.

Stability is excellent, just as long as you are sitting down! Like others, most susceptible for tipping is entry and exit, whoa that will wake you up quickly I have paddled from my rear seat which is fixed postion, just a little tight on leg room but yak is easier to steer and a little less plow from the bow. My forward seat is adjustable for travel along to side bars, I have more room from hear and feel a bit more comfortable but a bit harder to steer and a bit slower on speed.

My only struggle is entry and exit, certainly feel very relaxed when I am in it

I like the idea mentioned of a 'mini-skirt' I may still have one from years ago Well more to come as I learn, great to see all this input!

Karl, nobody wants to hear about you recently picking up the old town loon. That's your private business.

Maybe it wasn't really paddle drip that was getting the cockpit wet .

The radioactive red is a bit of an eye-catcher. I'm collecting feathers and hope to fashion the boat into a giant duck. We'll see who's laughing then!
