Can the D300 take advantage of the very fast CF memory cards?
I have some 16GB 133x cards I use for time-lapse, but when shooting RAW the image save can't quite keep up with 1 frame per second (without using lossless compression).
If I used the 300x cards, can the D300 save a RAW frame every second or less?

Use Lossless compression and save your money. It's 'Lossless' there's no reason not to use it.
FWIW the D300 is UDMA capable so it should take advantage of the 300x and Extrememe IV cards.
to a certain extent yes. the limitations are its implementation of the expeed processor. at 14bit raw you are looking at 2.5 fps max. you really don't need to use raw for time lapse work. i have done this sort of work for building moves and such for the US NPS and these run into hours and sometimes days. what sort of work are you doing that is 1fps? thats some really fast time lapse. at 1fps that sets you up for quite a bit of post processing.

most of it is slower - but there are some pretty fast moving clouds at the moment over some particular buildings I am working on - and realistically, it needs 1 second timing to get a smooth capture.
In terms of RAW or not (I am using 12bit not 14bit), sure I could capture in JPEG, but given that RAW is available, I would rather have the flexibility later in post. I have had a couple of JPEG problems in the past.... even having taking extreme care on exposure and white balance at the start of the capture, things change
