The most famous of the Japanese Maples in the Portland Japanese Gardens at her peak. This morning was truly magical, even with a lot of other people running around with tripods....
Never seen this garden with such incredible colors everywhere I looked.....
Today (the day after this was taken) I woke up to rain.... it's been raining all night for the first time this fall. We didn't have ANY significant rain until now, so I have a feeling this scene won't be found again until next year. And who knows if this weather pattern will repeat itself. It really was a special fall here in the PNW....

Those colors are spectacular. Wonderful composition as well. You are putting that 20D to great use, but I am guessing you are going to love the improvement of the 5DII when you get it (I think I remember you saying you were going to get it when it came out). Great work.
Seen many photos of this tree in the past week or so. Such an insane maple. Well done here w/ the shot. And good luck w/ the rain. I know how it can be there :-P
I agree with you about the long lasting autumn here in the NW, the peak has been intense with the lack of rain, it keeps "handing on" so to speak. So with a week of rain ahead this will all come to a rather quick end!
Hope you didn't have to wait in line to long to get under that tree. With the army of leaf blowing militia you were lucky to get leaves on the ground.
Perfect shot btw...
Hey John... very nice indeed. I saw this and I thought... I've seen this before. Then I came across Zeph's version from a week back. You guys sure have some fantastic gardens up there to work with.... just beautiful.
Absolutely awesome, John. Your composition is wonderful and I love the careful way you handled the color. It seems perfectly saturated. Truly one of my favorite shots.

Excellent shot John! When I visited the JG last year the colours had barely started to come through. Having been there and seeing this shot I'm wishing I was strolling through the gardens with you. Thanks for posting
