Yeah, its legit, that is where I got mine. Must of course have valid student or teacher information, but if you do it is the best place to get it. it is a student version, but it has everything that the professional edition has.

They are legit, but it's still academic software.

"Academic Superstore offers unbeatable academic discounts which are only available to students, educators, and institutions."

Using academic software for commercial purposes doesn't make it any more right than illegally downloading it. Maybe 50% more right :P

i'm both an educator and a professional photographer.

Not to stir the pot, but this is true. Adobe's ToS for Photoshop and I'm assuming LR forbid the use of educational versions in a commercial application.

No, there isn't any prohibition against using an educational version in a commercial application. We went through this discussion about a year ago on the Wedding Foto Forum, and it was determined by reading the fine print that this is a myth.

And I just purchased LR2 from them myself. You must have some sort of proof that you are eligible to purchase from them in terms of school employment (e.g. paystub, letter from your employer AND a photo ID).

My wife is a teacher, so I buy from Academic Superstore all the time. They do verify your academic credentials before they will sell to you.

OK, here's the real deal on AS. I am a student and I have bought lots of stuff from them. Their prices are great but there is one major problem. You can not UPGRADE any software purchased from them. You must re-purchase again at their price. I have confirmed this with Adobe. It seems like a good deal to start, but you will end up paying full price eventually and probably more if you do the math. I have both LR and CS3 and I have been forced to re-purchase both at the discount. Next time, I will be paying for the full price, because I still can't upgrade, and I will have exceeded the original price I would have paid plus the price of upgrades. It seems good if you don't want to upgrade, but look out!

That's pretty unethical. The discount is for educators, students, etc. Not their friends. If everyone did it, there would be no deal for those of us who actually need it (largely students).

they are great. So long as you meet criteria (different for each manufacturer), why not?

I must have missed this, I'd love to see it though so I can know for myself.

I have also had good luck so far with provantage.com for educational discount software. Just received LR2 and CS4 from them, shipping was only $4.95. Not affiliated w/ them in any way, and have not used academic superstore - yet.

Another edu store is journeyed.com. I bought LR2 and the Adobe Master Collection CS3 and then a Wacom Tablet which didn't need school credentials.

I'm with sboerup as well. I thought that going pro/comercial you would need to get/upgrade to the Retail version.

I ordered LR2 for 98$. I am currently a student at an online University. While there are criteria for purchasing, I think that if you do meet those criteria, what you do with the product is then your business.

Good point. My daughter started homeschooling last year and we've already run into this.
