Has anyone done any comparisons?
I get good results, when steady hands permit, of up to at least 3-4 times life size using my 38mm f2.8 Zuiko auto bellows lens on the 65-116mm telescopic extension tube, sometimes with ambient light but mostly with flash.
I have auto diaphragm function, which other bellows lenses lack, but changing magnification is slow and cumbersome. Thus the Canon lens, if it could be used via an adapter or by swapping mounts, might be better.

I haven't used the Zuiko 38, but I have the 65-116 extension tube, the 135 f4.5 and thr 80 f4.. I used to have to MP-E 65, but I sold it after acquiring the Olympus gear.
I found the MP-E 65 to be very difficult to use because there's no focus ring. All focusing is done via extension, and this meant that once you had your subject properly framed and composed, fine focus could only be achieved via focusing rail - so II think you'd end up in exactly the same situation, and with a lens that's considerably more costly to boot -

I have not compared the lenses but I have shot the 38 alot and the only reason to get the mp-e is to be able to go from 1-5x fast. The 38 is great directly on the OM-EOS adapter for shots around 1.5 times lifesize. I do prefer the OOF rendering of the 38 compared to the shots I have seen from the MP-E but since I have not compared this is just my humble opinion. The sharpness and contrast seems comparable. The reds gets blown easier with my OM lenses compares to my OM lenses.

I have compared Canon 20mm, OM 20mm, OM 38mm, OM 80mm, 135mm+the 65-116 extension tube, OM 90mm, Canon MP-E 65mm 1-5x Macro and various focal length 16mm,25mm,40mm,63mm,100mm Zeiss Luminar with Zörk multi focus system.
I preffer Zörk MFS with Luminar to get more DOF, one of the biggest problem in macro shot
IMO, all of them are great lenses but the resolution of Zeiss Luminar are the best.

The Zörk looks great. I use the Minolta Auto Bellows III for tilt and shift with my OM 20mm, OM 38mm, OM 80mm, OM 135mm + the Tominon 17mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 105mm and 135mm.
The luminars are reputable to be great!
