p.1 #1 · Intel iMac OSX 10.5.5 and Capture NX

I am running, or I should say attempting to, Capture NX updated to 1.3.4 on an Intel iMac with OSX 10.5.5 and its just excrutiatingly slow... I have contacted Nikon tech support but they are just scratching their heads and cannot explain what's going on. I worked as tech support for a 3D graphics software development company that specialized in Mac products, so I think I know what I'm doing. I tried NX2 and it flies. Anyone else experiencing this? Any tips or suggestions other that upgrading to NX2?

did you look with iStat at the CPU load and memory usage?

i found 1.3.3 faster. are you also using view nx? much quicker for sorting.

turn off noise reduction too.

yes and both are skyrocketing as soon as any dialogue is invoked after opening a *.NEF image file.

I only shoot NEF and NR is off in the camera settings as well as in Capture NX.

i'm using the original intel imac 20'' maxed out. my d2h files took about 4 sec to render in view nx while my d200 files only 1 sec.

check out this

http://www.luminescentphoto.com/

includes tips on optimisation.

well... I figured it out. It appears that having the trial version of NX2 installed conflicted with the patching of the 1.3.4 upgrade. After uninstalling everything, deleting preferences and cache files, reinstalling, patching, assigning the local HD as temporary file location, it now works quite faster. We'll see how long this will last if the memory leak has not been addressed.
