Actually, I just had a look at the 35/2 and 28/1.8 groups on flickr and the 28 bokeh doesnt look as nice as the 35 - it does seem a little 'busy'. This might be the deciding factor...
Haven't read the whole thread, but the 35mm f/2 has a place in my bag for certain types of photography with my FF 5D. Stopped down it is a fine performer, for example, for certain landscape shots.

I am hoping to move to primes for the wide->med telephoto range in order to try and think more about my photography. However, I dont want to spend an arm and a leg until I think this is the best route for me. I currently own the 50mm f/1.8 and have already decided to get the 85mm f/1.8. I cannot decide on whether to get the 28mm f/1.8 or the 35mm f/2. As far as I can tell the 28 is slightly softer with more CA but has USM whereas the 35mm is sharper with more vignetting.
I want to ask peoples opinions who have used both. Which did you prefer and why? What is the bokeh like with either, and AF speed, accuracy?
Thanks

Update
This setup is going to be primarily used on FF once I get my 5DII.
I think basically the 28/1.8 and the 100/2 gets most votes however it seems pretty close. I think I will see what is the best deal between the 28/1.8 and 35/2 and go for that and similarly for the 85/1.8 100/2.
Thanks to those who recommended the Sigma 30/1.4 as well however this is for crop and wont work on FF and is out of my budget too.
For some other recommendations, I should have specified that I want a fast lens i.e. <=f/2.
that was my conclusion after owning both lenses. I replaced the 35 based on all the internet reports claiming that the 28/1.8 gave better for bokeh (it costs more, so it has to be, right?). then bought a second 35. The 28/1.8 really is fine in most ways, and of course, for twice the price you would hope the cosmetics were better... but it wasn't. Also, stopped down a bit the 28/2.8 really is nicer (owned that lens for more than 10 years prior).

Just bought a D60 (Canon) on eBay for a friend. It came with a Sigma 24mm f1.8 lens which i threw on my 5D for a test. It was pretty impressive. Don't know what they cost used.
