I bought my D300 & D200 about 6 months ago. One of the main reasons for picking these cams was to use my old MF Nikon lenses; 28mm f2; 50mm f2 & 135mm f3.5. I haven't had the 135 AI'd yet but the other two are remarkable. Having had them for about 40 years & used them on my FT2, I was VERY pleasantly surprised how great they are on these digital cams. I will be sending my 135 to John White soon, to get him to do the conversion.
Great thread. Nice to see others enjoying these beautiful old MF lenses

This is a great thread-please keep them coming! I would love to see some tight portraits with the 85f2 AIS + some more with the 105f2.5 AIS...PLEASE.
I will have to dig up some photo's with the 85mm f/2. It is a very underated lens in my opinion... Very sharp and can be had for very cheap these days.
My local 2nd hand store has a clean 85f2 for sale= £160 so i'm tempted, except he's now on hols 'til the end of the month so i'll test it when he gets back Gives you guys some time to post some samples!!
Perhaps because they are recent lenses and have completely different construction? Both with regard to the number of aperture blades as well as whether they are rounded or not? my 2c.

It's interesting to me how some old MF lenses have extremely nervous out of focus areas and others are very smooth.
To my eyes Nikon has never really had a consistent look as far as rendering style, especially so far as boke is concerned. Not really on the same level of normalization across the lens line that is the Zeiss 3D look or Leicas flat but buttery smooth style. I suppose variety is good right?
Edit: As far as wide angles are concerned it is extremely difficult to design a retro focus wide angle that will produce smooth OOF areas. Lenses like the 24L can produce gobs of OOF areas but as a consequence of their design something like an M-mount 24mm will have an advantage.

Other than there's not a lot out of focus even at .7 MFD on a 24 lux.
I really like that second image in the kitchen. (It does look like the 24 lux aspherical has some nasty double edge junk going on in the boke.) I don't want to hijack this thread!
