new to LIGHTING and photography basically. i see a lot of people using pocket wizards and im not really sure how they work, or why one would want one...any info on a PW would be appreciated...
also i have a nikon d300, would a PW be compatable? i also have used commander mode on the 300, is it kinda the same concept?
A Pocket Wizard is used to wirelessly fire a remote flash or camera. At its most basic, it simply transmits a radio signal telling the receiver to close the circuit and fire the flash or camera.
The PW is compatible with the D300. The question that needs to be asked is what will you be firing? You would need to make sure that your flash has a PC cable connection, or use an adapter on a hot shoe.
I would highly recommend spending a few hours poking around the site of David Hobby, AKA "The Strobist." He is pretty much the jedi knight of this sort of thing.
