Linda: On the first one the face, but mainly the eye looking into the camera is soft. On the others I like the posing but you have too much flash effect on them. Your subject is dressed in white, a highly reflective surface and you do not want to overdo it. You needto pay attention when you are shooting portraits and those eyes need to be in focus.
Fill-in flash, in cases like these, calls for flash exposure compensation of at least one plus 0.7 stop. This is easily achieved shooting in manual. You do not want to overpower the ambient

Thank you William for your critique. Yes I agree I need to learn the flash. Thank you for the tips.

I think I like the second repost better... but I'm going to have to actually download them so I can view them side by side. As it is now, the second one is on page two of the thread and the first is on page one so it's difficult to flip back and forth.

I do think there's still something missing though. And unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to be able to put my finger on it. Perhaps contrast? Perhaps a little more work with curves? I donno.

You are shooting RAW, aren't you?

I think the only thing missing on that shot is more experienced PS work. I think the model, the pose, etc. are great. This could be a really stellar image if processed right. If I didn't think you and I were probably at a similar PS experience level, I'd offer to take a stab at it, but it's unlikely I could do better than you. I'm willing to try though, if you want to send me the raw file (you've got my email).

So, what's the story on this shoot? Was it just you and Brianna? Or was she the model for one of your classes? What did you do for lighting? You don't have a Vagabond do you?

Oops, I just noticed your thread title... you spell it "Brinna" and I misspelled it above. Sorry about that.

Thanks Daschund, I love the beach backdrop. I will let you borrow it if you want. This day was cold in the 60's.

If it was in the 60's and was cold, I wanted to know what are we having here on the low 20's! Now THAT is cold!

Uh... you spelled your daughter's name wrong? Hope she doesn't see this thread or you might loose a model!

Still waiting for that file...

HI Linda this is great work the 1st shot like everyone has stated is just fantastic!
the other shot are nice as well.. but the processing you did on the 1st shot lets me know you have really developed your PS skills!

Did you get a new camera as well?

Hi Sean!

Can you believe it. I have really been working hard. I have along way to go. Thank you so much for helping me out in the beginning. You are such a patient nice person. As you can tell I still need the help. But it is a little better huh?? Lots of great people here. Glad to see you back.

Linda

I wrote that before I saw Tim's version. I was really, really bad before. Now I am just really bad. At PS that is.

Hi Linda,

I'm glad you like the result. I don't think I'm more than an inch or so ahead of you with PS skills though. As I said in my email to you, I would be proud to be able to take such a great shot! You've got perfect composition, perfect exposure, perfect pose and a perfect model. And I'm jealous as heck!

I just figured out how to easily view the prior versions of the photo for comparison (didn't realize it was this easy)... I just started another copy of my browser (IE) and in one copy I went to the last image you posted (mine) and in the other I went to one of the revised copies you posted earlier. Then a simple ALT-TAB allowed me to flip back and forth. And when viewed that way, I must say that I'm pretty proud of my result.

Keep on shooting... you're doing great!

Tim

Thanks John! In email I told Linda that my efforts would be no match at all for you or Cristina. You'd put me to shame, that's for sure.

But Linda's image is perfect. All it needed was a little PS work to bring it out. This was also the first time I'd ever seen a genuine 1Ds raw file in the flesh! Quite impressive! And I of course have no actions designed for that camera.

Cheers!

Tim
