So here's the deal, I've been purchasing some gear to take with me on an upcoming trip. I just got a 40D+ grip (used) and went out yesterday to try it out. I also bought some new CF cards so I put in a new 8G Ultra III and shot some pics. All was well until i got back to the house and tried shooting a pic of my dogs. I popped up the on camera flash and released the shutter, but as I did so I heard a loud, seemingly electrical POP! It sounded like a fuse breaking and the camera then read "busy." I was able to get it to start working again in a few minutes so I replaced the card and tried a few more shots until I got another, louder POP.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Any idea what to do?

The same thing happened to me a few years ago, I tried the on camera flash and got that same sound. It only happened once though and everything was fine after that, but not sure what the deal was.
If I had to guess a capacitor is grounding somewhere. Send it in to Canon but don't expect a cheap bill for an electrical gremlin unless they can visually see a blown (fat) capacitor.
