So until today I've only done live band shots except for a couple strobist attempts at group photos. Today I decided to christen all my new lights and shot my first 'studio' shots. My friend came over today so I used him as a guinea pig. I don't think it turned out too bad for my first shoot. Came up with the concept midway through and just tried to have fun with it.
All shot with a Ranger S head in a deep octa as key and 2 600rx's on the background (the living room wall). Didn't have too much room to work with so there was a little more spill than I would have liked. C&C welcome.
I think you've really got the spill working for you in these shots. You haven't blown out the back, and the almost rim light on the jaw/back of the neck (as in image 1) looks planned/intentional.
The perspective works for the character of the face. As an aside, my choices would be the first shot in line one and the first shot in line 2.
