I appreciate the info Ed. Though your shots are gorgeous, the image you project as a studio is also admirable. It's fresh, fun, and 'cool' - completely seems like the whole thing is a party when it's serious business. Great stuff.
You're my hero. Quick question: when you mention that there's a HUGE difference when someone who has worked as a main 2nd shoots for you as oppose to some just starting off, can you be a little more specific? is it his/her ability to engage the wedding, bride, groom? Is it his/her ability to anticipate shots on the fly better? I'd love to know since this is my first season 2nd shooting.
dawg, I'd say it's that they're a lot more experienced at everything, including knowing how to work with the main photog and how to be the ideal second that they always wanted, plus they're creative juices are really flowing from being set free to do the fun part after years of holding back and being responsible to get all the main stuff.

i didn't have the urge to keep watching them. i didn't feel like i had to tell them to shoot something for me. after the ceremony, while shooting the family formals, they took the bridal party and arranged them in different poses, different arrangements on the side. out of my way and out of people's way. i heard laughter and shutters going off. they were going up to random people and shooting portraits.
everything was automatic. they were'nt assistants, they were colleagues. it was awesome.

Thanks for the input. Something to make note of on this journey for me. I do feel more relax actually when the main trust me and my skills. I feel a little stuffed when he/she is like, "Hey, can you get this shot, pose 'em like this, etc." A wedding I did just a couple weeks ago, the main was totally like, "Do your thang, chickin wang" and I felt that wedding I had the most keepers and had the most fun out of all the wedding's I've shot so far.
Ed - you've certainly "killed it" once again. All of the shoots are fabulous. Congrats...
Quick question - I've never seen it asked and if it has, please accept my apology but... what software / templates are you using for your photo layouts when you post here? Just curious. TIA...

we've created custom actions that makes our frames in photoshop... but setting up the collages are all manual and requires a bit of elbow grease. =)
