Probably not Photokina, but come PMA, a 24MP D800, with HD video and all the other D700 features and improved live view etc, say for $3500 would be a killer.
From the little information I've gathered about the 5Dmk2, it seems to me that, like the original 5D, its feature set is not its selling point.

I wouldn't want to call the man an idiot... Especially not since he seems to be heavily sponsored by Canon
First time in this and the earlier rumor thread I am completly with you, Daan!
I would guess that his China olympic blog and this one might have brought him enough money to purchase 5 5D MK IIs easyly. Next to the point that I think he does not need to purchase himself but just may write a note to the News mag he is working for.

Something tells me that Canon might have tested this a bit.
Sure, but what does the poster mean when saying the sensor will be cooked by the video feature? Is this a well known problem or this an alarmist's viewpoint?

I suppose it's fair to say that we don't know what the elevated temparature parasitic effects are on the camera's AF performance. Similarly, signal thermal noise will be temperature dependant to an extent unknown.
However, I think it would be equally fair to say that connecting-ducting the camera to an Air Conditioning outlet should control/mitigate those potentially adverse effects.
Uhh- I meant to ask if the camera can be run off household current like the 1Dsxxx series cameras.

OK, the camera with a right adapter/rectifier can be used on any AC current....residential, industrial, windmill or nuclear generated.....as long as voltage and number of phases are right.
I was just kidding.
I though so. I just couldn't find any mention on it when I was reading about it on the Canon site, and the DPReview site. On my 1Ds, a false battery pack gets inserted, and you plug the dedicated AC/DC adapter into the body that way. I do a lot of studio work tethered to a computer, and hate the hassles of changing batteries right at the wrong moment. I have no problems with cables however.

You must be doing something wrong. If jpegs were not as sharp as raw i doubt the worlds top wedding photographers would be shooting jpeg, which they are.
That isn't saying much about the worlds top wedding photographers if your statement was true. Jpeg is a lossy format, so as soon as the image is saved, it is compromised. They would have to be crazy not to shoot and keep raw files instead of jpegs.
Is it me or am i not seeing any big difference between my current 5D and the image quality of the new 5D. In fact I see more noise in the new 5D images as posted on dp review. Is it really worth upgrading? I have great 30x40 inch prints from my current 5D. Are we going to forever chase more megapixels! Do we really need any more. Most images are printed no larger then 11x14.
From what I've seen of the poorly taken jpeg's from the 5DII is very low noise and as a consequence, not a lot of sharpness or detail. I could be the JPEG engine. It could be over use of NR. It could be that the 21mp is just showing what the lens can resolve....in which case I'll stick to sRAW. It could be something else. But so far, this cam isn't really impressing me compared to the stunning output that the current 5D can offer.
I'm still at a loss to understand why this new cam is so sluggish. Digic 4 offers 100mps, this camera is only offerng us 21x3.9=81.9
I think I'd have been happier with less NR, less MP and faster fps. The Nikon D700 has set the bar at 5fps. Canon has dropped the ball here. They should have offered us a camera with 5 fps and 20mp. That would have been a far better choice. I'm also stunned by the lack of an AF upgrade. I can't help but wonder if Canon's AF department are in utter dissarry after the 1DIII fiasco. Causing Canon to stick to an old and pedestrian AF system (and consequently needed to slow the fps down so the AF could keep up). The 5D's AF is proven and works and so far no one has really complained about it.

I agree that the old 5D's auto focus has proven reliable with very few complaining. Someone tell me why I need to upgrade or why u guys are upgrading. In my opinion you don't need more then 12 megapixs. I had a billboard made of one of my 5D pics for a local chuch and it looks awesome.
