Although I really like the 40D, after using a friends 1DMIII for a day I wish I had waited. I won't make the same mistake again.
Just curious -
Then why not go for the 1DM3 now if you liked it? True, not Digic IV, or 21MP, but at least it's available, it's proven, and with late production units, the AF issues shouldn't be a factor.
The 5D Mark 1 seemed to me to have a problem with automatic white balance under tungsten + flourescent lights; always required a post-processing correction. Do the pictures linked above suggest that the 5D Mark 2 has fixed that?

this is exactly what canon wants us to believe and do. quick, fashion an aluminium foil hat and protect yourself from their brain scans.
We won't know this for awhile. There is no way of telling from the sample images if the photographer may have used an expodisc or tweaked the color in post production.

i now feel that video mode may indeed be interesting. i am thinking of an extremely high quality lens, such as a 180L or 300/f2.8, focusing on a butterfly and watching it getting in and out of the extremely thin DOF in a high definition movie.
Still, I prefer not having the video mode in my camera for now, since it is experimental.
Also, is Canon still interested photography equipments? If yes, then it should fix the non cross-type AF points issue first.

Believe me, I have been giving that a lot of thought and came very close to doing it a couple of times but decided to wait and see what was coming out since the 40D was serving me well. The 1DMIII of my friends had no A/F issues what so ever.
I figure if I'm going to get a new camera I might as well get the latest technology plus I would like to try full frame.
Well maybe you guys should take a look at Vincent Laforet's Blog....the video capabilities seem pretty impressive. I can see why some would choose to use a dSLR for video now.

I rather wondered about that. Good way to get people to order a lot of them right off the bat.

I can't see using a dslr for video. But, I'm sure that Canon's and Nikon's marketing departments tell them otherwise.
I can see uses for video, its just like any other feature, if you guys dont like it, or dont want to use it, then dont. How many 40D users use live view? I find it useless, but theres no real reason to complain about it.
Finally someone who knows how to take a good picture has had a shot of one. This should silence a few of the critics.
"The 5D MKII camera produces the best stills in low light that I’ve ever seen - what you can see with you eye in the worst light (such as sodium-vapor street lights at 3 a.m. in Brooklyn) - this camera can capture it with ease."
He may have a Pulitzer, but he doesn't seem to be aware that the camera only has NINE focus points. How can he possibly use a camera with nine focus points? And the CF door doesn't have the best kind of gasket. How could the man win a Pulitzer with such a lack of knowledge?
I was very impressed by Vincent's frame grabs. They were downsized prior to posting them on his blog, and nothing else done to them.
I've been considering getting a Video Camera for some of my Wildlife work. Now I won't have to, and look forward to seeing videos done with my best lenses and shallow "depth of field" to separate the subject from the background.

he doesn't need to know such obsolute stuff - he knows how to take pics -
PERIOD
Not only does he know how to take pictures he ordered 5, thats right 5 5dm2s after doing that little shoot. Read the rest of the blog and you will see that there are a lot of news types interested in this camera. A lot of places are no longer taking pre-orders as well so if you want one soon, better jump fast.
As a side note I cant wait to hear some of the early posters eating crow.
