Yep Just been looking at the high iso's at the end. Admittedly its good lighting but the native high isos (up to 6400) look very good to my untrained eye (and comparing what I am used to on the 20D.) iso 1600 looks very sweet - I'm presuming they are in camera jpegs.
But that's to my eyes so I look for more expert comments.
I'm still sad there's no significantly new AF and the x-synch is only 1/200 but maybe this camera will find its way onto my Christmas present list after all.

Yeah, they are in-camera JPGs and don't indicate the amount of noise reduction applied. But the high ISO shots look at least as good as my 1D3, the only camera I've ever had the opportunity to shoot at 6400 with. What a wonderful world!

I just did a back to back comparison between my 1DmkIII and 5D
Shutter lag.... once again WTF I could not notice any difference between the cameras once focus was locked on.
Viewfinder blackout.... Ok I did notice that blackout on the 5D was a little more noticeable. However I had never noticed it until all of the moaning made me do this comparison.
I can not see how this possibly could be a problem for anyone unless they have seen the difference and they constantly focus on the problem rather than taking pictures. Unless of course you are superhuman and your brain can process an image so fast that it makes it seem like a "blackout" rather than a flicker than the normal human sees

I had a 5D for a couple of months. I liked the IQ, amount of pixels and the FF overall, but there wasn’t anything else I liked. Blackout time, shutter lag, difficulties seeing the whole viewfinder, AF speed and only 3 fps was a downgrade from my previous 20D. The screen also was complete sh*t. The 1D IIn hasn’t let me down at all. It also was a bunch cheaper than the 5D. Thanks Snir!

If you shoot RAW, these samples aren't representative. The RAW files will always be way noisier when unprocessed. Since the 5D2 tested was also a beta, things may or may not change before the actual release. Having said that, we also don't know what in-camera sharpening and high ISO NR settings were applied to these samples. High ISO NR will always sacrifice some details/sharpness.

You are right I do shoot in RAW and so it is a bit comparing apples to oranges and also, as you say, this is a pre-production camera. However I'm certainly impressed with what I see so far. But maybe I'm too easily impressed. I would like to see some high iso in flourescent and tungsten lighting with WB corrected. That would give further clues.
Another question regarding how Auto ISO works on the 5D Mark II. Do you have the ability to choose your maximum ISO and Min shutter speed with Manual, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority mode or is the logic slightly different?
looks like very encouraging 6400 performance. i'll still let the early adopters sort out the fabrikneu foibles. (such as, why does ISO100-200 look so unimpressive? increased sensitivity is great, by not at the expense of daylight-ISO capability.)

It's part of a plot by Canon to get us to buy even more different models: one camera for night, another camera for day, another for landscape/studio, another for sports, another for portraiture....
iso 25600 seems pretty useless to me.
More of a gimmick than anything.
One has to consider though, that expecting good iso 25600 at present is, at least in my opinion, a bit unrealistic. Maybe in a few years.
On the other hand, having the possibility of shooting at that iso is better than not having that option, even if I think that I will never use it.
Why?
Because one day there might be a rare occasion where I might actually need it...

Yes but that's a huge image size. With a RAW, and some real NR, it'd probably make a decent 8x10 print at least, which is pretty amazing.

I hope it is implemented like my Pentax K20D. It has a TAv mode, where you set the shutter peed and aperture, and it chooses ISO. And you can set the range of ISO that it will choose from. Very smart... I hope Canon can be half as useful with their implementation.
Yes, with the Nikon you can set your max ISO and Min Shutter and it will work for any mode. I'd like to confirm if the behavior is the same.

We were just talking about how useful this would be a few weeks ago. It's not enough, all by itself, to make me want to upgrade, but I'm thrilled to know this will now be on all future (higher end) Canons.
I could not notice any difference between the cameras once focus was locked on.
