Your EOSfun is maybe much DEEPER than mine. I am just trying to be a photographer :-)
But Canon delivers me the gear I need. Thats fine.
And you where right ment you where right with your suggestion, I will be happy.
Some more ISO 1600/3200/6400 and some high Iso pics would be fine though.
I have to collect money now. Maybe I can earn some working on a promo show
Much as I hated spending all that money I'm too attached to my 1Ds3 to sell it now, just the build and the in-camera backup etc.
I might change the 5D for a new version in due course though, the new one looks really good to me.

My last landscape photo expedition I hiked 12 miles, mostly uphill, carrying a 30 pound pack and my 1Ds3. The lighter 5D2 will be much appreciated. But I wouldn't have been willing to sell my 1Ds3 if they hadn't matched it's resolution with the 5D2. This camera will be the holy grail for landscape shooters.
BS! I own a 1Ds3 and absolutely don't need another one. I do need a portable and usable back-up FF cam though.
So you see? No BS Daan. You wanted another 1Ds3. Just a backup (where do I know that story from, I just need a backup honey ) IMO the 5DII is a great backup camera to your 1Ds3, unless of course you want it to have the exact specifics of the 1Ds3 but the price tag of the 5DII.

If only Canon would have given the 5D2 the 9 AF cross point of the 40D/50D + 6 assist points things would have looked better. Not too much to ask IMO. I sold my 5D's because I hated their outer AF point performance. I am horrified that the same system is continued in the 5D2. Maybe tweaked, but essentially the same hardware
Daan, how does the 5D center point AF compare to that of the 1D series? (in one-shot mode) I'm asking because I'd like to have an idea how the AF of the 5DII will compare to that of my 1D-classic. I think I use AF center point and one-shot 80%-90% of the time.

It's obvious that Canon's policy to keep the lock on corporate news even within the company has it's price by quite a few inaccuracies and misinformation. I don't what works better for Canon. To have more preliminary leaks and some more whining and nagging up front from the wannabee Nikonians or Sony Alfisti's or to just have them later Anyway, did you all get the other non-EOS-fun that Canon brought us, like the SX and G10 series? With all this EOShype of the 50D and 5DII have a look at those too. It's really interesting to see which direction the industry is heading. Especially that SX1 is telling an interesting story to other manufacturers and the retailers......Show more →
Is your real name by any change Nout or Berend? More and more I get the impression that you are being paid by Canon as an online marketeer... Or maybe you work for Canon as some kind of damage controller? Smells EOSfishy to me

Did you read what I wrote in context? I was specifically talking about AWB, nothing else.
I did take you in context. I'm sorry for singling you out. My point was that we're already at 25 pages of posts, mostly complaints, on this brand new camera, and given the limited number of "sample images" there really is nothing to base the hundreds of complaints on.
These tools, these new cameras from all of these manufacturers, are simply amazing. I can't understand all of the whining from everyone.
Again, Beni... I'm sorry to single you out. I know you were only commenting on one aspect.

Have EOSfun!
You are such an EOSa$$... All I want is a decent AF... Not 45 points... But 9 cross AF points + 6 assist points would be nice. Get it?

No he's paid by Nikon. So many users in the Canon forums are pi**ed by him that they would make the switch just because of that
Funny I just read a thread in the Nikon forum, an FMer said something like hopefuly EOSfun stays in the Canon forum!

Did you move on to cameras here, or are you still talking women...
Think cameras. Women are more expensive and less credible. Except mine (for the case, she reads that).

You are too modest Ralph. Everyone who visited your gallery knows that you are a great photographer. Your pictures have the "soul". I am sure you would make great pictures with other gear too. In many of your posts you show you have the real EOSfun, but for some people it seems to be hard to distinguish the EOSfun from the EOSfan and those people want to make us that: fanboys. But I know we are photographers, with the love for light (and bodies )

The 5D AF overall was less responsive than that of the 1Ds3. As if there was some kind of delay between the moment you half-way pushed the release and the moment it locked on. The 5D center AF point covers a larger area than that of the 1Ds3. In some cases beneficial, in others not.
Ok, so after really looking through the feature set, there are a few useful things that people seem to be overlooking a little because they didn't get one feature they really were hoping for. First off, the battery status feature is really useful. I always hate looking at the battery on the lcd and just getting full, half, and empty. you never really know where you're at.
The weather sealing actually seems quite nice, and I think canon is actually playing it down just so people don't go crazy with it and start snorkeling
The af on button is great. I use that a lot on my 1dsmkII and it was welcome to me when upgrading from a 5d.
The HD video feature is huge. HUGE. sure some people think, meh, but in the end things are starting to blend in the way images/video is presented, and this will just help us have even more creative possibilities. Sure, its only one frame rate/resolution, but at least its hd and we get to shoot through 35mm lenses on a huge sensor. Most video guys would kill for that alone. my friends frequently use expensive contraptions to use manual focus lenses to get a shallow depth of field with their digital video cameras.
Next, the screen is a welcome update. The IR filter also looks to be interesting.
Oh, and the microphone? this camera is going to sell like hotcakes to photojournalists. And the two sraw formats are very welcome. I don't always need more than 10 megapixels anyways.
I guess my point is that we should stop complaining that the d700 is so much better. It has better autofocus and wireless flash control. Nothing new there. Nikon always does that. Sure, canon should change that, but in the end I want a better file. I want to print and have better colors, less noise and more megapixels for my clients when they want a big print, or something is going into an ad and will be 2 meters wide on a bus. This does that at a really great price point. I'm selling my 1dsmkII and getting a couple of these.

Someone posted pics from the new camera that had truly awful WB, just as bad as on my 5D's. Someone else asked if that was the norm for canon cameras and I commented that Nikon facial tones in jpg seem to be superior. That is all.
Most of the complaints are based on one thing only. The AF. Given that it's exactly the same as that in cameras which have been experienced for 3 years already I think it's quite justified to comment based on that experience even without using the new camera given that nothing has changed.
I do know that if it had the AF from the 50D then considering the level of weather sealing I would have upgraded at least one of my 5D's. As it is I don't need the megapixels so I'm going to pass.
The fact is at 3.9 FPS we can live with that. The 9-pt AF hardware is the same as the original 5D, BUT it will be processed by the Digic IV processor and algorithms.
This is very significant and must not be underestimated. The question is, will this AF be more, evenly or less accurate than the Nikon D700 which is the competitor? Also, will the 5DMkII AF be more accurate than the new 50D. Right now my guess is that it will be less accurate than both. This is a major disappointment.
All other features are too new and many of us will give Canon the benefit of the doubt about it being better. No problem there, but the AF is another issue. IQ resolution means nothing without a great AF.

For those of us not printing large ads for sides of buses, if the AF is not as accurate as we would like, particularly in low light, a better file is meaningless and will not happen.
Amongst all these whiners i see EOSfun very refreshing exeption.
Maybe itīs just because we europeans have different type of attitude to life, not so worried all the time...
I think Europeans, prefer manual focus, whereas the rest of don't. I was reading the WSJ yesterday about Leica, they invented AF and thought it was useless, and sold the technology to Minolta who went to town with it.
