I had an extreme lucky break on getting my hands on one. Someone never picked up their pre order and I was next on the list
2 pano's from my first shoot. Absolutely in love with my baby. Now I have to decide between the new canon 24mm or the zeiss 21mm.

stitch of 5 shots. final is a 700mb 64mp tiff.
stitch of 3 images. Final is 35mp. I'm aware of the clipped clouds. too lazy a.t.m too remerge the whole thing.
I'm very happy with the camera and it has subdued all my camera cravings...probably until the new 1D is released. I just need a great wide angle prime.

p.206 #3 · Canon 5D Mark II master thread
ly to me than the product purchase price.
Just got my 5D2 kit today. After 9 shots and letting it sit for a few hours, picked it back up and now just get the dreaded error 20. Did all the suggested fixes and even updated the firmware... no luck. It had the battery grip on it at the time, but it made no difference with out it. It will go back to B&H tomorrow.
Also found a large white speck of something on the inside of the front lens element on the 24-105. I also got the Canon UV filter for the lens and when I screwed it snug, it presses on the front element of the lens! What gives with Canon these days?
This is the worst luck I've ever had in buying Canon products for more than 20 years!
Sorry to hear about your bad experience....sounds like my experiences with Canon products. 5D replaced twice because of excessive crud behind the SI screen, 1Dmk 111 finally taken back because AI servo was suffering from ascending paralysis,... and others. Canon products I have purchased have all been defective in some way, and I also don't find it funny..or acceptable. I have not replaced my equipment since the last fiasco, and may not unless a more comprehensive and acceptable return/replacement policy between Canon and myself can be drawn up prior to money changing hands. The time and inconvenience factor alone associated with the last round of Canons feet shuffling antics was financially more costly to me than the product purchase price.
I just know that somebody's going to tell me to read some part of this thread or another, but I have one quick question - how's the viewfinder on the 5D2 compared to the 5D? I'm guessing that it's abour the same since the specs are similar. Is it brighter?

Have any 5D-II users noticed the higher latitude for recovering overexposure vs the 5D-I?
Here's an example:
The hot spot still exists, but the shot is usable vs unusable. Sorry about the pet photo
My Mark I was good for this, but never this good. Lesson learnt: always shoot raw.
Yes. I noticed exactly the same thing with my 1D3. People often poo poo the 14bit "advantage"...But I do believe it is at work here, although I could be mistaken. Regardless, there is no doubt that recovery latitude is higher with all three of my 14bit raw cameras.
I'd like to know what is going on with the red edges around the front of the white building.
The red fringe seems to happen around blown out areas.
I have seen that in other shots with the new 5D Mark II like this one:
I am in the same boat. Have to decide between the 24L II and ZE 21. Waiting for Diglloyd's tests or shootout between these 2 lenses, but I am leaning towards the Zeiss - as I am expecting the Zeiss' resolution to be significantly higher - but we'll see if this bears out. Speaking of resolution, check out this image I shot recently with the 5D II and 85L - and the 100% crop:

That detail is amazing. My first shoot immediately made it clear that the 17-40mm is a joke on the 5D mk2. I'm in the exact same position as you. Waiting for reviews of the new zeiss compared to the 24mm.
I'm sure it's been a said a thousand times, but I'm really dissapointed in what canon has to offer at the wide end. If the nikon 14-24mm had filter thread I would buy it.

The focus screen seems quite a bit larger to me - more like the size of an EC-x screen than the old EE-x screens. No idea how that works, since the old EE-x screens are meant to fit (albeit not perfectly).
I should have my 16-35 2.8L II in a few days. I'm really hoping I get good results with it. My mark 1 I had to send back twice before I got either a good one, or a well calibrated one, not sure what Canon did but they fixed it.
To extract the most out of the 5D II you want to use the best glass that you have. I try as much as possible to use my prime lenses, and I really need something on my wide end. I have been tempted many times to get the 14-24 .... and filter is the furthest thing from my mind. Polarizers don't work very well with super-wide-angle lenses - as the darkening is uneven. You are better off using the graduated filter in Lightroom or CS4 ... as I have done here:

Thanks, shadowcat and Justin D. I'd have guessed that it was nearly the same since the specs didn't really change much other than the slight increase in coverage from 96 to 98%.
