The only thing I want is working auto-iso functionality!!! I shoot live gigs a lot and would like to set 1/180s and my aperture and have the camera control the ISO for me... but nope, ISO 400 max in manual mode sorry mate. Surely this isn't rocket science?
yeah that, the lack of Av control in video and lack of an outline around the histogram so you can see it well outdoors are kinda

I can't figure out why anyone thinks they should, especially after a model has been superseded by a new one. Maintenance, yes. But if it continues to do what it did when first purchased, the manufacturer has met his obligation.
still pretty weak IMO
and an old outdated pre-digital model of thinking
This may be why Canon will not be offering SDKs for any new PowerShot cameras released after 2008. Too much code disassembling going on. The PowerShot G10 and SX110 IS will be the last models supported by Canon's SDKs.

if they let people go free for all I bet they might attract more people to the brand an dget more lens sales and money than being tigh tlike this and hoping people do 20D-30D type upgrades....

probably depends upon what you are used to.
having mostly used xxD recently, I was a bit taken aback by the way the 5DMkII shutter sounded and how much it shook the body compared to the little APS-C mirrors.
I don't recall the EOS 650 or Rebel 2000 being quite this sort either, but it's been a while
or the 1dmkii's for that matter
never touched a 1Ds of any sort of the original 5D or the upper level film bodies
anyway it sounds disconcerting in the sense that some of the other cams sound like this when they are about to fail hah but I know this is how it is supposed to sound so I don't really care in the slightest, but I could see how someone coming from some of the other cams could be afraid their unit was about to break or something heh, but to them I say, honestly, no worries, chillax hah.
I'm a little bit surprised the shake through the body is as strong as it feels for just a 4fps FF cam.
I just got mine and everything appears to be in order, 10 fingers, 10 toes and all that but the shutter sound/feel surprised me. I listened to the examples on youtube and the 5D samples sound dead on to my 5D but the 5D2 samples do not. There's a definite buzz/kazoo sound that vibrates the body of the 5D2. I know it's not mirror slap because when I shoot in live view(silent mode 1), the exact same buzz occurs so it's the shutter. It isn't something that inspires confidence and it's not something I'd call slick and mechanical as described above.

They did improve the shutter by 50% in lifetime. By moving the solenoid, the sound has changed. It doesn't mean that it's LESS reliable. It could very well be the result of it's being MORE reliable. Just because something doesn't sound "nice" doesn't mean that it isn't.

How's the image quality? It seems to me only marginal with the Tamron alone, however, I am now tempted to try stacking the Tamron and Canon converters. I've stacked the two Canon converters and got really good moon and Jupiter pics at 1400mm and manual focus, so maybe the Canon/Tamron combo is worth a shot.
The IQ is good. Obviously it would be better if you could get closer and fill the frame with only 1 TC. It is better than using only 1 TC and then cropping.

Wow! And interesting to see that the Extreme 4s are really substantially faster than the Extreme 3s, especially for RAW.
Yeah, I've been trying to explain that to people. Except for video, they aren't fast enough for the 5D mkII if one is shooting at full fps for long bursts.
I was going to hold off until next year to buy the mk2, but changed my mind, now I can't find any in stock, even at local b/m shops. Should have pre-ordered when Canon announced this camera.
what if he gives a patch to let people apply themselves to their own firmware?
You can't "patch" firmware at the camera. You replace it. The code could be patched, but what you do in the camera is replace the entire thing with the patch included.

The pitch of the shutter re-cocking is lower in the 5D2, easily determined at slow shutter speeds. I doubt it's creating any more vibration, and even if it is, it's happening after the exposure.

Depending on how long the exposure, and depending on when it supposedly vibrates the camera, on open or on close.

Not sure if I am reading this right or not.. Are you saying the Extreme III is fast enough for video or not?
I shot a bunch of video over the weekend with the Extreme III (30mb/s Edition) cards and everything seemed to record well.

although at 4fps you tend to no overlow the buffer as easily
i used some extreme III 8GB new edition and didn't get a slow down in a half of soccer
