Yea, why even announce it if you're not going to ship it for another half a year atleast?
That's a discussion to be had with Sony, Nikon, and Pentax. Sony has taken more than a year (A900), Pentax sometimes never delivers (medium format DSLR), and Nikon has taken more than six months.
Canon rarely takes more than 60 days after announcement to have the camera on the shelves.
can you mount it on the vertical side of the l-plate and take a pic? It looks like it would work for a "suitcase" type below the waist video grip for action sports or low perspectives..
Yes, of course. You can use the L-plate for vertical shooting.

...i meant mount the grip on the other l-plate dovetail on the side..so the configuration of the grip will be like a suitcase handle (like that of camcorders with a loop/grip on top of the camera)
OT: is this freakin thread addicting to anyone else as it is to me? Just the anticipation of someone posting that they have their 5D Mark II in hand causes me to click on the end page whenever I'm in this forum.
The video grip's Q/R clamp will allow you to mount your L-plate/camera on either side or direction/orientation.

My goodness! You guys are like kids waiting for Xmas. What are you going to do if the camera doesn't live up to all the hype? If this camera isn't ABSOLUTELY perfect in every respect I can just see thread after endless thread of people complaining about noise, sharpness, AF, white balance, ad nauseum...
And like kids waiting for Christmas, is not the anticipation really better than the thing they are waiting for?
So i heard this years Christmas special... Opra is giving away a new 5dmk2 to everyone!!
Talk show audience members will have the power of 21mp and you will not.

I have a $150 check being mailed by them for the Pixma Pro9500 Canon printer. Guess I won't be getting it now. Just wonderful.
Hold on to it. Thre might be some chance of getting something back. It's also Canon, and the other companies may get involved.
But, that's not certain. As the article says, don't try to cash it yet. Try to do follow-ups with Canon. I would call their customer service department and see if you can get some info from them about what's going on.

To throw off sales for other manufacturers.
People will often wait for "vaporware" if they think it's going to be "hot".
Sony kept most of the details of the a900 from everyone, basically allowing only the number of pixels for the sensor leak out, and the fact that it would be a high end machine. That was a year ago.
Hopefully, for them, that would keep enough people from buying a new Canon or Nikon, and also keep unhappy Sony users from defecting, so that it would sell better than it might, if announced a short time before delivery, as Canon, and Nikon usually do.
You have to understand that secondary manufacturers are forced to do this, as most people don't consider their products. They have little to lose.
Canon and Nikon know that people will continue to buy products up until the last moment before a new model is announced.

See, that's kind of the problem. It hasn't even been mailed yet...
FYI- I just spoke with Canon sales after calling for repair status on a lens and was told that the MK II kits will be shipping "late November", but the bodies will not ship until mid December.
I hope this is not true. Guess we'll see very soon.

I ordered a kit, fearing this to be true. Hope I'm not wrong (or at least that the kits ship the same time as the body "late November."
