No if Nikon is going to introduce a larger than FF camera it will be their own design, with possibly their own sensor but certainly with their own lenses
If Nikon wants to stick with 12MP for FF 35mm, then:
-The full size of the sensor will be 54x54mm in size, for a total of 40.7MP.
-If you crop 24x36 from 54x54mm and calculate the MP, it's basically the pixel dimensions of the D3 image size.
- If you use the "MX" lenses, and use the entire 54x54mm sensor size, and crop the SQUARE to 3:2 dimensions (using 36x54mm of the sensor area) you end up with 4253x6380 = 27MP.
However, if Nikon decides to make like Sony and decrease the size of the pixels so that 24MP is the new FX 35mm, we'll either end up with a smaller MX sensor totaling 40MP, or the 54x54mm theory, which obviously would result in more than 40MP available on the MX square sensor with the 24MP FX pixel pitch.
