I agree that banding ruins an image. I don't know enough about the causes to know if they are likely to improve this issue to make ISO 6400 more usable before release.

If I didn't need to put together a new computer, in the very near future, and not have bought a 40D (or even if I did, just not so soon), I'd definitely like to get a 50D.
1 stop difference for me would make all of the difference in the world, shooting in some place with minimal lighting.

Thanks OP for the pics - 3200 looks quite nice compared to the 40D, and per-pixel sharpness is better than I thought it'd be with the increased pixel count.
I'm among those hoping that either firmware or some processing software can help eliminate the banding at 6400 and 12800, because aside from the banding they're quite promising.

went back today, and all teh CF card holders were taped shut, they said because someone yesterday posted images all over the web of a preproduction cam. Ekkkkk! I wonder who that was.
