THE LCD OF THE 50D is a dream to use. very contrasty, almost too contrasty, made it look liek some post was run through. and YES you can check sharpness on it now.

What about the LCD? How does it compare to the 40D's? Thanks for the photos, by the way
Yes I would also love to hear about the LCD I am not getting any younger here and the better the LCD is the better it is for my tired eyes This was the big reason I went from the 30 to 40 is the LCD size.

i dont know what all you HIGH iso snobs want, I think this is MORE than usable at @3200, even 6400 for a fair shot, and id rather have the option for 12K if I NEED it - they dont look that bad, no worse than the old Fuji 1600 film did!

i think the banding will be fixed by the release, i mean, why even have that option if the banding was that apparent.
Plenty of cameras have been released that show banding at high ISO. If it's there now it'll be there when it's released IMO. Hopefully firmware will fix it.

It'll be interesting to see if in camera NR takes care of the banding.
ISO 3200 looks fantastic. You could easily make very large prints at that ISO without any issues at all. Even 6400 should be good for any prints in the 8x12 to 10x15 range, I would think.
This is easily a full stop improvement in noise handling (with almost zero detail loss) over previous 1.6x Canon bodies.

You could also just shoot in raw and push it a stop or two afterwards. I'm not really sure why they're offering 12800 if it looks that horrible... maybe just to compete with Nikon.

nice post, thx for the pics !!! ISO 6400 is so usable in certain cases, damn 1/400 at f/4. I wonder what I will get with a 50 1.4 at the same ISO....yummy !
At f/1.4 at the same ISO and other settings in the same light, you would get 1/3200s. IOW probably time to reduce the ISO, or stop down to avoid softness on the lens.

I often shoot at high ISO on my 40D, and in my experience the shots were often spoiled by bloody banding.
Its very disappointing indeed to see similar banding on the 50D shots here.
Why should I pay to upgrade my 40D to 50D if both cameras have unacceptable banding? To me banding is a deal breaker.
I really hope the 5D Mk2 has better control of this problem, I really do. Thanks for posting the images here.
The banding is at ISO 6400 and 12,800. The IQ of the 50D seems to be better at high ISO, especially ISO 1600 and 3200. That's worth something, don't you think?
