This is a bronze statue from 19th century France titled Musique Legere (I can't type the accents) made by an artist whose last name is Bouret. That's all I know about it. If anyone else knows anything about such things, I'd love to be informed. Anyway, it certainly fits the bill as an antique. Hope you like it!

I see the new rules Fred has instituted precludes me from posting this as a separate posting. Maybe I can get Fred to put it up for me so everyone can see it but in the meantime here is the information:

To all my Fred Miranda Colleagues and Friends,

Once again, I will be playing my annual Labor Day weekend concert
in the Bing Theater of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, only this year
it is a week later - on Sunday, September 7th at 6 PM sharp. One week from today! My brilliant colleagues, Genevieve Lee - piano, Kevin Connolly - violin, Steven Gordon - viola, and Dennis Karmazyn - cello and I will play the beautiful one movement C Minor String
Quartetsatz by Schubert and then the extraordinary A Major Piano Quintet by
Dvorak. The concert is free to all who live in the Los Angeles environs but you must be there before 6 to get in since it is being recorded for later broadcast. For all of you who are out
of the Los Angeles area, it will be streamed live over the internet
and can be heard by going to this website right at 6 PM (Pacific Time) on
the 7th:
http://www.lacma.org/programs/SundaysLive.aspx At the bottom of the page is a section called "Sundays Live on the radio and streaming audio". By clicking on the "here" word you should immediately be able to hear the concert. For those in Los Angeles, it will also be rebroadcast the following Wednesday at noon over KCSN radio (88.5 FM) . I do hope you can either come in person or listen in on the net or radio as it promises to be a lovely concert.

PS : Here, for those who live in other parts of the world, is a handy time
conversion website so you can figure out the exact time the concert will be
streamlinked.

Endre my old friend, what beautiful piece of art. As always excellent lighting! I like the color version better for the WA presentation but if I were to hang it I might lean towards the BW. How big is the statue?

Good stuff!

I prefer the rich color of the first image.
Superb lighting! Very nice.
The thumbnail had "Endre" written all over it.

Welcome back, my dear friend, Mike!!! I've been wanting to call you but one thing or another just always gets in the way. How have you been? You've been sorely missed around these parts except now that you're back, we can all kiss any chances of a 1st place win goodbye.

Thanks so much for the kind comments. I'm always glad when you like one of my shots. I far prefer the color version, myself, so that's what's staying. The statue is about 20 inches tall.

We'll talk soon.

Warmest best wishes,

Endre

Thanks, Carrol. I'm always pleased when you like one of my shots. We all seem to develop ways of shooting that are distinctive. Thanks for the compliment.

All the best,

Endre

Not an easy decision but I'd probably stay with the first one. The lighting is as good as it gets but I might have shot from a few degrees further around anti clockwise in order to avoid the wing seeming to grow out of her head. Understandably, this may not be possible. A minor point in relation to your attractive image here.

Best. Bill

Nicely lit, Endre. Not 100% sure about the angle you chose, but if it's not the very best single view, it's certainly a fine one.
I prefer the monochrome version because it draws our attention more to the form of the sculpture and because it doesn't cause the small portion of pedestal to stand apart from the statue.
Great job, as always!

that's a nice sculpture you chose! i'd go for the first one as its colors depict age. now, if you showed us a Stradivarius, you will instantly get my vote!

Thanks so much for the comment, Bill. I am glad you like it. That's a very good point about the wing. If I get a chance, i may try to re-shoot it although it will make her leg appear straight on to the camera while t the same time changing the overall configuration of shapes. I'll see it that works or not.

All the best,

Endre

Thanks, for the thoughtful comments, Jess, my friend! I appreciate your input and am glad you like this. As i said, I may try to re-shoot it. Now that I look at it yet again, I see why I did it the way I did: by rotating her so that the wing clears her head, it gives a nice arc to her arm,
BUT in doing that the expression on her face will be lost as her face will probably wind up more in profile. Big problem. I opted for this angle because her facial expression is so nice and I wanted to bring that out. I'll see about it again tomorrow.

Fond regards,

Endre

Thank you so much for your kind posting. I appreciate hearing from you and am glad you like it enough to comment. I have shot my Stradivarius in so many ways for these contests. Unfortunately for this assignment it looks way too new to be very representative of "Antique" even though it is from 1728 and so is likely to be among the oldest of objects photographed for this WA. If you've missed seeing those shots, you can see them here in the "Violins" section of my gallery website: http://www.endresphotos.com/-/endresphotos/gallery.asp?cat=35664&pID=1&row=7

All the best,

Endre

By all means - please share my link with anyone. I am so glad you went to visit my site and enjoyed all the shots of my beloved violin. Please check up at the top of this posting as I've just added a link to the streaming audio for a concert i'll be playing next week. Perhaps your friend will be interested in listening in.

All best wishes,

Endre

PS: I hope you'll still vote for my shot even though it isn't a photo of the Strad.

Hi Endre,

Lovely shot with exquisite lighting as usual. I like the color version better and the golden color just seems to fit this statue. Thanks so much for alerting us to your concert as well. I wish I were in the the LA area, but I will try to pick it up over the internet. Best wishes,

Steve S.

Every time I see your photos I sense a strong European flair. This looks renaissance, both the statue and the photo.

You always bring a certain classiness to your work. A beautiful shot.

Thank you so much,Chad. I appreciate your very kind comments. I have spent a lot of time concertizing in Europe so perhaps, some European elegance and class rubbed off on me. Those are certainly qualities that I keep in mind when I am composting a shot.

All best wishes,.

Endre
