p.1 #1 · Microsoft and Nikon Enter Into Patent Cross-Licensing Agreement

What do you think the implications are of this deal? Found the story highlighted on Rob Galbraith's site but this link is from the Microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2008/aug08/08-27MSNikonPatentPR.mspx?rss_fdn=Press%20Releases

I don't really know enough about software to really comment...your thoughts?

If Microsoft is linking up with Nikon (or anyone else for that matter) it can't be good for the consumer.

I’ve seen various post like one above. i wonder why people assume negative without knowing the detail of the deal (and without explaining the reasons).

so they can now both use each others' patents. I’d think it’s a good thing for engineering work, since they don’t have to re-do any work that’s been done by others without fear of patent violation, which can be very costly.
