Given that Nikon has the D3...

I think it's a lay down misere that the new small format pro body is going to be the 3D...

3D vs D3.... get it?

I'll remain an EOSfan then....

After 3D is out we never have to read those threads concerning it AGAIN, I guess :-)
So it would not be a big problem for me ...

OH hell yeah!! Thats exactly what I want. You've read my mind

Seriously though, I dont know why canon is so after the MP race. Don't they know that people that buy current FF cameras understand these things for their IQ, not MP!?!? If they were to maintain @12mp and really increase its IQ, im sure most current 5d owners that are sticking with their cams for its impressive IQ would definately part with them and upgrade to a BETTER IQ cam.

Apparently, the specs for the Sony A900 are officially out:

24.6 MP full frame
5.0 fps
Viewfinder 100% Coverage with 0.74 magnification
Sensor-based stabilization
Dual Bionz Processors
19 AF points (9 dual cross type @ f2.8, 10 assist points)

Interesting times, indeed.

I'm guessing it's just their way of saying:

"We don't have Live View yet. But we do have something that approximates it!"

Sony has never had Live View through the main sensor though. They have it through a secondary sensor installed in the viewfinder housing. But they can't implement it without signficantly reducing the size of their viewfinders. That's the reason for the tunnel vision viewfinders in the A350.

The Sony A700, for example, is notable for its lack of Live View.

19 af points? the add says 9 dual cross type at 2.8 and wide area 10 point assist: the question is whether any of the assist points can be user accessed/selected for focus...if not, it is a nine point af system.....i would think that if sony had 19 af points available, they would have said something llike: 19 point af (9 dual cross types at 2.8), but they did not... this seems more like a variation of the current 5d with 9 af points and 2 or 3 assist points at the center....

Why isn't the SET button good enough for this purpose?

I think Canon are going to really surprise us in the next few weeks.

Either 24 megapixels for the 5d.

Or no 5D anounced at all. Which would not surprise me.

Well, why use the SET button, which one can use (as of now) for quite a few useful things, when one can use the 100% useless direct print button instead?

For sure there is not going to be a 5D Mk II. The 5D product is history.

But there will be a new body and it will be called the 6D or 7D or 3D .... whatever!

I'm not sure what the best method on the 1Ds3 is, since I don't have one. My understanding is, one still needs to go through menus in order to switch between the MLU and non-MLU mode. But maybe 1ds3 users need to use the menu a lot anyway? I find it rather cumbersome on the 5D, since I don't want to use MLU all the time, and it is usually the only thing requiring me to go into the menu. Also I think it would be better to have a dedicated button which one can use at any time, instead of switching modes. Then one also doesn't have to remember the mode the camera currently is in, perhaps missing a time sensitive shot when a bird flies by. Again, I don't know if the 1ds3 is easier to use here, but I hear that the complaints continue.

I have my SET button programmed either for Review or Live View, depending which I need. LV is MLU plus LCD show - simply disregard the LCD show.

While I totally agree that the DP button is completely useless, I don't quite recognize why people simply can't get over it given that there are alternatives. Life is full of useless things, such as "wet floor" signs or "caution, coffee is hot" in the drive-thru. Besides, on the 50D the DP button _does_ have a new meaning, so chances are it will on the 5D2, too.
