p.1 #1 · EOS Utility/Remote Capture/1Ds MK2/Leopard

I have just recently installed Leopard 10.5.4 and updated EOS Utilities 2.4.0.3/ Remote Capture 1.5 on my imac G5 but couldn't get EOS Utilities/Remote Capture to work. Every time I tried to connect it came up with " Failed to communicate with camera" message. Canon still hasn't got back to me with a solution, so after trawling through forums for a couple of days, I found one on here with a workaround fix that works for some cameras but not my 1DsMK2, but with a slight change now works everytime for me so I thought I'd share.

Original fix posted by Moondigger on April 19

"1. If the memory card in your camera is empty, take a picture, then display it on the camera's LCD. If the memory card already has an image on it, just display that image on the LCD.

2. Run EOS Utility, and choose the remote capture option. You will get an error message telling you to clear the LCD.

3. Press the display button on the camera to make the LCD clear.

This will allow the remote capture function to work.

This seemed to work for some cameras but not my 1DsMK2. So fiddled around and with slight adjustment came up with this

1. Start EOS Utility ( no camera connected ) EOS Utility main menu opens with Remote Capture greyed out.

2. Turn camera on ( still not connected ) and bring up any image on the rear LCD screen.

3. Plug in firewire to Computer and then Camera.

4. After approx 5 seconds EOS Utility closes then re-opens with Remote Capture available.

5. Depress shutter release on camera to clear image off LCD screen

6. Click on Remote Shooting in EOS Utility main menu.

7. A few seconds later main window disappears and Remote shooting opens up. Done.

After that, if camera is still on and connected and you shut down EOS Utility you should be able to open EOS Utility/Remote shooting without the above procedure, however if you lose the connection ( cable gets loose etc ) you have to go through the above procedure to reconnect.

Hope this helps.

My 1DsII works well with my Powerbook running OS10.5.4, EOS Utility 2.4 and DPP or LR1.4. I connect the firewire, turn the camera on and wait for the connection icon on the camera rear LCD. I launch DPP or LR1.4 depending on the project then launch the EOS Utility and adjust camera orientation on Utility display. You're ready to fire the camera and in about three seconds the image comes up on the monitor. I do not use Capture and do not even have it loaded to my computer.

I tried all that but had no success hence the workaround. It seems to work for some but not me for some reason.
I need Capture so I can adjust all settings and shoot from the computer which loads to an open folder in Bridge.

I have also been experiencing connectivity issues... multiple preference files seems to have been the issue and right now it seems to working ok again:
