He must go to Tesco for fruit, it looks terrible!

Not terribly impressed with that image either.

I do not care about fruits. The banding looks great so.

If it turns out that the 50D high ISO jpeg images indeed carry some softness and noise reduction artifacts, we can all thank Nikon and their enthusiastic reviewers for paving the way.

Just thought I'd check in on the Ralph Conway forum. Yep, everything appears to be fine.

There is one forum named after me?

Sounds somehow like: "His fathers name is like mine?" FG like. Who is ltd. Dan?
First right answer gets a beer when she/he visits germany (let it be a "she" please, with firm breasts, intelligent and not older than 38).

Did not know there is a RC forum.

To Benny:
Life IS beautifull.

OMG. I just realised that is an guardian topic thread of an old camera offering low Iso and not state of the art resolution. This is a semipro of the past. I am sorry, but as a crab fisher I have to look for lobsters. See you in an other thread. It was a pleasure to meet you.

Postscript to DPR's Canon 50D gallery :

" Update: we've just been informed that contrary to our original understanding, this is actually not a final production camera, so please consider these samples as 'pre-production' Beta quality."

This may account for some of the adverse comments made earlier in this thread .

Nein Ralphi, but Beni meant you must be THE MASTER of the 50D. That's what the header says: Canon EOS50D master thread. Tschussi!

But "guardian" created it. Not me. And I do not want to have a cheap consumer camera like 50D to play around with. What do you think would it need to count all those pixels? Beni can do that.

I do not want to play. I want a honest TOOL. To do pics. So my thread would be 5D II.

This came from B&H's newsletter announcing the 50D and the D90.

"If you often find yourself shooting under low-light conditions, the new camera can be set for ISO ratings up to 12800, which means you can not only photograph people standing in near darkness, you can also photograph what they're thinking about."

Read the whole thing here.

I'd say someone at B&H has been reading this thread.

On my last visit to B&H indeed one of the guy was reading the FM forum. When I asked him about the 5D2 he pointed to this forum...

I know B&H is putting out the Canon line on the 50D, but I hope to see an ISO 12800 image posted from the 50D. Not being sarcastic about it, but if the 50D does turn out to be able to get a good image at that ISO, I really would be impressed, and so would a lot of people.

That confirms my suspicion on why it takes so long for them to answer the phone. From now on, I'm just going to post my questions for them on here.

It's also a little disheartening given the kind of wild rumor that circulates here - or maybe they just read it for a laugh (when they get tired of answering the phone!)

I'm pretty sure we'll all be impressed, Gil. It'll be an engineering marvel if it's usable.
