Yikes, that is a scary website. Just kind of perused their "Best of 2008" article, really a waste of time... not to mention it read like they where yelling out all this information... Nasty.
I tip my hat to those out there capable of writing good articles. Probably never going to go to that website again....

I can't seem to find the link you've posted. Did popphoto take it down?
The link only contained the text that I copied and pasted into the initial post. They probably got Canon's release schedule a littled messed up and released the info a little early.

Yeah. I was a forum member there years ago. There were never more than a handful of users online. When they updated their website with American Photo, I left. FM is the awesome!

I just checked--not there now. Appears there may be miscommunication yet again with Canon (hmmmm.....). Canon is able to get these 'leaks' out every season---and after just a bit they are squashed, but enough have seen them that they start a big buzz.
I wonder how face detection will cope when it sees the look of horror on the users face when they see the noise at ISO 1600 - does it report back to Canon HQ and a team is dispatched to neuralyze them.
Actually, the profile face detection on the G10 sounds like a pretty handy feature. I look forward to giving it a try ... if I don't go for the Panasonic LX3 instead. I wouldn't worry about ISO 1600 ... it seems like a feature that is being systematically designed out of P&S cameras. Probably because Canon marketing understands that the younger generation raised on P&S cameras prefers the aesthetics of their images and given any high ISO performance would skip the whole DSLR market altogether.
I just spoke with Canon customer service about the G9. It is now out of production. The rep assured me that the G line will go on and that "they are NOT done with announcements for the month of August." I was just about to jump on the G9. I guess I'll wait and see.

I like the 28mm wide angle. Canon seems to really listen to G users and grant us our top wish each year. I wish Popphoto had listed the lenses max aperture. Anyway 28-140mm works well for me. Exposure comp on a dial sounds like a nice feature. There has to be more to this new release. Maybe I will match my current G9 up with a Panasonic LX3.
As soon as I can find the LX3 available in the USA, I will be getting one I think..

I love how everyone derides higher MP/sensor (50D and now G10), as if the technology never improves with these increments.
Maybe we should be trying to push old Pentium 150s to run at 5GHz, instead of shrinking the dies and adding multiple cores?
Give your heads a collective shake, people.
That's pretty funny comparing the G10 and 50D. Yes I'm sure the G10 has crammed more pixels in and noise is a bit better, but given how pathetic these cameras are above ISO 400 (200 for many cameras) it'll still be pathetic. Now if they had used their brain and combined digic IV and left the camera at 10MP they might have actually given Fuji a run for their money.
Also begs the question why you think someone serious enough to want 15MP in a P&S doesn't get a DSLR in the first place. If you actually want 15MP to make big prints, then you'll get far better results from a DSLR anyday. If you aren't making anything bigger than A4 what's the point of 15MP, 8MP would be plenty.
This is exactly why the LX3 is appealing to me. 24mm F2 Leica lens with optical IS, high ISO, manual controls, metal body, 10mpix, and supposedly cleaner noise. Regardless, a P&S is a P&S. I just figured that having one that was capable of shooting in low light and be decently wide would be a nice thing to have in my pocket. The 720P video is a bonus.
