I don't think so. It's very personal. I have a 40D and not the slightest desire to upgrade. If I had no camera I'd look very carefully at the price differences to see if the difference is indeed justifiable for me.

Well, I guess if you don't need weather seals then the 40D would be fine.....but what if it starts raining?
I once shot with Elan 7 and 85/1.8 (none have weather seals) in light drizzle for almost an hour. No problems whatsoever. If it rains harder then I go looking for cover....
I bought the MKIIn and was going to keep my 30D as a backup. It wasn't long before I sold the 30D because I forgot where it was. Once you go 1 series you can't go back.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.
Yakim, the OP has neither and wasn't implying you buy anything.

I've forgotten where the bag with the 20D even lives since I got the 1D.
I'm user of the same. I do use my 20D still, BUT.... there is NO comparison in handling the two different styles. What won me over, is the fantastic viewfinder, and the film-like feel of the 1d (classic), with "only" 4MP

I don't get paid to look for cover when it starts raining!

As of today I'd pre-order a 50D. If you were shooting fast action sports the 1D Mk IIN would be the right choice.
I'd certainly not pre-order anything new Canon now. I would wait and see if the early owners of the 50D had issues first. Especially as this seems to be another rush to market deal. But that is just me.
I would go for the Mark IIN or wait and see what plays out with the 50D.
