p.1 #1 · MOVED to Macro Forum

These very very small guys were hard to take pictures of especially with the wind. I am not exactly sure what they are called but they are much smaller than the typical size dragonflies. These were taken handheld w/ Nikon 200mm micro. I am still very new in this area of photography but loving it. Thanks for any input.

Gee Dan I thought for a moment that you were leaving us. Looks like you found a new string to your bow with this venture into macroland. I usually use a tripod for these little fellows as its real delicate to get the focus just right and with no shake for these fellas. And the wind is usually there to some degree so I try to have a good shutter speed as well and take a burst of 3 or 4 at a time and hope one of them has it sharp. I know some macro shooters use a ring flash and get great results handheld though. Looking forward to seeing you develop in this area.
Keep them coming.

Hey DannO, damselflies are beautiful tiny creatures and require the utmost in focus precision. For handholding without VR you did awesome! Like Martin says, this is most oftern tripod material.
I know some of the macro guys prefocus, then drift slightly back with the camera then proceed to drift inward then release the shutter as they come into focus. Anyhow, I am sure we will see some stunners from you soon!

Lovely set of Damselflies Dan

I shoot a lot of my macros hand held. How are you liking the 200mm macro?

Beautiful Damselflies shots. I haven't seen them in my area but they are excellent
macro subject. The last one is my favorite and you must have a very steady hand.

Hey Dan! Welcome back to your other family

Oh look at you shooting macro. Smart man keeping the subject parallel to the sensor. I do think either a tripod or Karl's suggestion would sharpen these up a bit. Oh I know in a post or two you'll be right up there with the best of them. That is just who you are
