p.1 #1 · Software to use with my XRITE DTP 94

I'm sure calibration questions are tired here, but hopefully all I need here is some quick advice. I have the Monaco XRITE DTP 94 colorimeter.

Brief version: aside from Color Eyes Display Pro software, which I downloaded and tried last night (I had an older version of CEYD that came bundled with the XRITE 2 years ago), is there some good calibration software you could recommned that has a trial version? I want to compare the results to what CEYD Pro is giving me.

Long version: I have been out of the hobby (slammed with school/work) for many months. Just got back from vacation and wanted to calibrate my display, which I havent done since a year ago) before getting into my editing.

I am now using Vista, and wasnt sure if the old Color Eyes software would play nice with it. So I downloaded their newest version of Color Eyes Pro to try, since it says it should work with Vista.

Basically, it seemed to brighten the display a lot, to the point that ISO 1600 images were looking *horribly* noisy at their "as shot" settings in Lightroom. I expect noise to creep up when pushing the exposure, but not without any exposure compensation.

This is exascerbated by the fact that I have traditionally had a problem with prints coming out too dark (despite being very careful to follow numerous tutorials to ensure I am using the correct settings, not letting the printer make decisions etc). Therefore anything that brightens my display more is likely to frustrate me even furrther when trying to print.

I am therefore dubious about the recent calibration, and wanted to try another software with my XRITE to see if the results are similar. What do you recommend.

What can I do to tell if my calibration is off? What settings might you recommend in CEYD Pro to correct this.

Does it make sense that my ISO 1600 images show a lot of noise without any exposure compensation??

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Finally.. the monitor is a 4 year old Dell LCD... any advice on an affordable well respected LCD.... big size is not important... 19" would be fine.

Thanks in advance.

Just on "other color software", have you already tried Argyll CMS or LittleCMS?
