1) I get about 1MB per second.
2) I use it with XP, sorry. I can try to test it with Vista.
3) I've only had luck testing it with Flash drives, but I believe it must be formated to FAT32, and 1.8 bus powered drives only. 2.5's ask for too much power.
4) The battery on the mk3 is so great that often its the card (even when I use 16gb) that runs out first. I've reached 9,000 images with a third charge left easily
5) I like it, but it's still very unintuitive to use. In fact, while you can "save" settings, they're so touchy I just do the wizard thing each time.
Here's a tip: Use 2 cards in the mk3 if you shoot RAW. a big RAW file will clog the throughput of the wireless. So I shoot RAW to a large CF card, but have the SD card hold small or medium reasonably compressed JPEG's. Think of it like a polaroid.
Set the mk3 to "view" off the second card, as this will also be the card that transmits through wireless.
That way you can preview a 12mb RAW file with a 1 or 2 meg JPG file. Obviously if you don't set WB or picture styles, then it may look really different, but I try to keep my jpegs looking a lot like my RAW files (which is why I shoot jpeg more than RAW).
You can also do this with jpeg/jpeg to card 1 and 2. I write a large jpeg to card 1, and a small jpeg to card 2. That cuts the throughput down as well, since a large jpeg is 4 plus megs easy, while a small or medium is about 1 or less depending on compression settings.
Hope this helped. Feel free to PM me if you wish, we can always chat about it.
Yo Ty, are you located in AZ? I notice you had a Sierra Vista PO BOX. If you ever roll out to Phoenix, I'd be glad to meet up with ya and play with the WFT.
And ya, I love how people are already putting down the mythical stats for the new 5D. Personally, I wait til a camera exists to judge it, but that's just me.
Max,
What distance can you shoot? I'm wondering if it would cover a typical 12 court Tennis club if I'm shooting all courts?
And, Can I "tag" or identify the images in any way? Right now, I shoot court 1 into 101EOS1d, court 2 into 102EOS1d and so on, Can do I anything similar when transmitting?
I bought a set up on ebay 2 years ago in an attempt to use it for a santa shot at a mall.. I hated it.. didnt work right, as a matter of fact not sure if i ever got it to work right.. even after being on phone with Canon to sort it out , it was something with my 5d i think? Fireware issue? I dont remember, just remember being mad and frustrated and just threw (litterally) cf cards back and forth to Sony Snap lab...
