A pleasant surprise. Not what I expected from the title. Very interesting composition, nice crop. The place looks abandoned, but like it was once some kind of business? Shoestring
The picture is of an antique shop near my house called "On a Shoestring" It is still open, but looks very run down. The outside looks like Samford and Son with chairs, tubs, etc. laying around everywhere. After seeing Grandma Rose's "Dream Train" I was inspired to go over to this place because they have a red caboose right next to the building. Once I got there, I started taking pictures of the building itself. Although I eat at a restaurant right next to the building nearly once a week, I had never noticed that the "bricks" are actually asphalt strips. You can see the seem every 5 courses.
I have actually been inside once, and it seems to be an old house. There are rooms and even a kitchen. The antique store has expanded several times, into the caboose and into several attached buildings. I got an uneasy feeling walking up the stairs to the second story, and the floor was so loose in the "living room" that when I walked by, a plate shook off a shelf. The building has a lot of character, and make in interesting subject.
Hi Evan,
First thing that strikes me is the care you've taken with the composition. Pretty classic, and works very nicely. The detail sure makes it a pleasure to view.
Thank you all for the nice feed back. I spent all week trying to come up with ideas, and then on Wednesday morning I just when out and drove around. I find that I do better when I stumble across a subject than when I spend time thinking about it and trying to create a subject.
Having said that, I have some ideas in the works for next week's assignment.
