I don't see this upgrade being worth the $99. The only thing they've done that I feel is really worth anything is the brush and I do all of my serious adjustments in PS which already has these features and more. I'll stick it out with LR1 until they really do something worth the money.

Thanks Butch for your feedback. The new image is so much better - just for this LR 2 is worth the € 99 upgrade to me. Ordered it right after testing the new profiles. Addition of brush (portraits, lighting up eyes, softening skin) and gradient (for landscapes) is an added boon.

It seems to be running well on my machine. Today I upgraded my RAM to 3gigs and it's faster. Noticeably faster but I do find that the brush is really lagging. Everything else responds nice and quickly but as soon as I start with the adjustment brush Lr slows down.

I might put in another gig and see if that helps. My notebook maxs out at 4 gigs.

There is one bug I'm finding and that is the second monitor seems to disappear and turn off when it lags down. I have to open it up again. Anyone else finding this?

I find that the brush and filter actions lag big time on my dual core 3.6 Ghz XP Pro box that's maxed out with 4GB.

I'd agree with you on the monitor issue, I hadn't connected it to slow downs but you are right.

Ok good, at least it's not just me that is going crazy. I've also noticed that sometimes when the second monitor does disappear if I keep working away it will reappear out of nowhere. I don't have to reopen it.

So a computer with 1 GB will not handle LR 2 as LR1 did pretty well ?

Don't forget to check out the new camera profiles. They're still in beta but I've got high hopes that finally the colors will come closer to what DPP produces. They work with LR 2.0 and Camera Raw 4.5 (released yesterday as well) and can be download from http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles

I just received my 2.0 upgrade and installed the profiles.

Question, Should the calibration numbers for each profile show in the color fields? Mine do not and even thought the colors do change when I am changing the calibration profiles, the slider numbers always remain at Zero.
I had made my own custom calibrations for my Nikon D200 and D300 so I have these calibrations numbers, but wanted to see what the differences are between my calibration settings and the new adobe camera profiles.

For those of you who upgraded to LR2 from LR1 is there any consensus as to whether it was worth the extra US$99? Considering the upgrade myself but as I am only just learning to take full advantage of LR1 I'm not sure whether I should just stick with that or upgrade now & invest the energy in L2 learning curve now ...

Perhaps I should add to the question above that I also have CS3...

Absolutely worth it. The local adjustment brush and grad ND filter is worth the price alone!

Definitely worth it ... do a Google search for Adobe promotion codes that you can use at the Adobe store and you could save a little in the process.

Not much of a learning curve compared to v1... just more tools to take advantage of.

It took a little searching but I did indeed find a 15% discount link making the final upgrade price US$84. In the spirit of FM reciprocity here it is: upgrade

I am enrolled in a digital photography class at my city college and they are using Lightroom 2 in the class. I could pick it up for $99 with a student discount. We have the program available to us in the computer lab, but I would like to have it as well at home.
The thing that I am worried about is if my computer can support it fairly decently.. or.. would Lightroom 2 make my computer cry if I installed it?
I have a MacBook with 2.16 Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram..

It should do ok with your machine. As always, the more processor speed and RAM you can throw at a graphics program, the better. I have an iMac with the same processor speed and 3GB RAM and it does fine.

how does this upgrade work?

I have my licensed LR 1.0... shall I just buy the upgrade and it will install it right away?
