I've always had both feet planted firmly in the modified Ec-L or modified Nikon FM3a K3 split screen, but I think I'm going to give the Ee-S another try because it's a readily available and comparatively cheap screen. I recommend that the OP give it a shot as well..

I probably will, for the same reasons. I am also considering the Brightscreen "proscreen." -though there doesn't seem to be much recent discussion about it. It's also quite pricey.

I am partly concerned about how these screens affect the view when you are NOT using MF. The Ee-S is supposed to be fairly dark while the Brightscreen is supposed to be, well, brighter. I guess maybe that's nothing to get too worried about, esp on a 5D, yes?

Brightness is one of the most valid concerns in my book. I do a lot of night photography and want the brightest good screen for manual focus I can find. Right now that's the Nikon FM3a K3 screen that I was able to find at an obscure local shop.

Google "SLR Daren". They have a modified 1-Series Ec-L that is probably next cheapest after the 5D's Ee-S. It's reasonably bright, actually I would say "Ee-S bright" until the corners, where it gets dark (1.5 stops darker than the center?). The 5D prism just isn't as big nor as high quality as 1-Series prisms, and thus can't transmit light as well into the corners of the frame.

The Brightscreen that I tried (can't remember the model number) didn't impress. The brightness was fine, but the split was one of the most annoying I've ever used. Too big and too diagonal.

Accuracy is another thing you'll have to worry about too. I've found all the screens I've used to be fairly accurate in tests (sometimes a little front, sometimes a little back, but not perfect), and that's across the focus range up to about 100mm focal length. At 100mm, the screens become much less accurate, or maybe it's just me.

exactly and you can refocus or even a bracketing. this should be built in cameras. is focus-bracketing built in eos-cams?
i have four dslrs-exchange-adaptors. unfortunately 3 of them do not have the ouoter-lens-stopper-screws. could anyone send me 5 pcs? i will send swiss chocolates.
plus: the inner screw has a higly interesting design. its hjas a plastic-stopper ontop of the end to protect the lens-cover. screw is concave to fit the plastic. i killed one of these by wrong mounting(did not read jorges instructions.

As i already told i have three types. And only the worst one regarding lens-locking lets me focus to infinity. did not test until now. at 40m i see infinity on the lens.
dlsrexchange is even worse. has screws so its the best regarding camera-lock.
have optixpcb.com on my list.
btw: i have a m42-eos which i can adapt. is focussing to infinity or showing the right distance. measured at 1.8m. those with wrong infinity are showing 2m or even more(not yet tested in details with dsrlexchange. i only tested inside 6m-room.
the one with the better locking-system is from peleng8 but not sharp at infinity. and locking system is quickly wearing out. one has to bend the lever inwards from time to time for save locking.
the good one with too thin lever(useless to work with outdoors) is from unshown origin(from a private person).
i know why teh DSLRExchange(i have four) is not sharp at infinity. it was built for canon 5D mark II-mirror-clearance. but this was never said. or do you find something here from torralba or in rangefinderforum? i have posted that in his zeissimages-forum recently.

Have you tried the Leitax solution?

http://www.leitax.com/Zeiss-Contax-lenses-for-Canon-cameras.html

It's by far the best of the many that I've used.

P.S. it's been a while since your last post, eh?

I think the best non-semi-permanent (e.g. Leitax) solution is this adapter:

That said, Leitax makes nice parts too, I have ordered from them for OM-Nikon remounts and such.
