I am partly concerned about how these screens affect the view when you are NOT using MF. The Ee-S is supposed to be fairly dark while the Brightscreen is supposed to be, well, brighter. I guess maybe that's nothing to get too worried about, esp on a 5D, yes?
Brightness is one of the most valid concerns in my book. I do a lot of night photography and want the brightest good screen for manual focus I can find. Right now that's the Nikon FM3a K3 screen that I was able to find at an obscure local shop.
Google "SLR Daren". They have a modified 1-Series Ec-L that is probably next cheapest after the 5D's Ee-S. It's reasonably bright, actually I would say "Ee-S bright" until the corners, where it gets dark (1.5 stops darker than the center?). The 5D prism just isn't as big nor as high quality as 1-Series prisms, and thus can't transmit light as well into the corners of the frame.
The Brightscreen that I tried (can't remember the model number) didn't impress. The brightness was fine, but the split was one of the most annoying I've ever used. Too big and too diagonal.
Accuracy is another thing you'll have to worry about too. I've found all the screens I've used to be fairly accurate in tests (sometimes a little front, sometimes a little back, but not perfect), and that's across the focus range up to about 100mm focal length. At 100mm, the screens become much less accurate, or maybe it's just me.
