I have the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 and a 50-150mm f2.8 sigma lens but i'm hearing lots about the 28-70mm 2.8, is there any difference in quality? range? etc, am I missing out?
It just seems with most peoples styles that the 28-70 or 24-70 is an essential lens. I know for 75% of the wedding I use it. It is a must have for me. Look and see what focal lengths you use the most and if it falls in that range then get it. If it doesnt then dont waste your money. You already have most of that range covered anyways.
The 24-70 2.8L is on my camera 70% of the time, the other 30% is the 70-200 2.8L. My wife (second shooter) uses a 20D and the 24-105 4.0L 100% of the time. I plan on adding either the 17-40 or the 16-35 soon, as a really wide would help in some tight spots.
I just did a quick analysis of the last 9 weddings I shot and here are the top 10 most used focal lengths with the % of frames shot. (FF 35mm equivalents based on the crop factors of the various cameras that I use.)
I haven't quite broken it down into perceived focal lengths used for the various lens ranges, but... that would be interesting Maybe I'll repost after I run the numbers.

Don't own a 24-70mm zoom, and don't really want one. I'm mostly a prime guy, but when I shoot zooms I prefer 16-35 + 70-200. Strokes for folks.
I mostly use the 16-35, 24-70, 85 1.2 (my all time fave) & the 70-200 when I need to go long. I love my primes but I work really fast & find that zooms are incredibly versatile.
The 24-70 is a great lens with a well deserved reputation.
