I recently picked this lens up after thinking about it for some time. I converted it with the Jim Buchanan kit very easily. My first impression is that it's a very nice lens. It has great sharpness wide open and seems to handle veiling flare well enough. I also like the colours, which can really be brought to "pop" in post. The bokeh borders on funky sometimes, but I think I like the look and might keep it. I haven't done any shaving or filing of anything, and I can get to the 5m mark before the mirror hits. http://www.pbase.com/stevenpa/image/112936401/original.jpg

The Rokkor is only sharp from f2.8 .....
Bobby, it sounds like you got a very bad copy of the Rokkor. I just received mine and I have to say it is (like many others say) quite sharp right from wide open, and simply astounding by f4.
Thanks Burningheart!
I think this lens will become legendary in a few more years.
The Sony A900 gang are really enjoying it. I am on my 1lds3.
After comparing it to the 135L, one of Canon's best lenses,
this lens is the sharpest lens wide open at 1.8 and sharp
across the frame along with an extra 1/3 stop more of buttery bokeh
than the 135L. Also, alot less LoCA than the 135L.
This lens along with my Leica 100 APO and 180 APO 2.8 lenses are a special set of high resolving glass perfect for the 1ds3.

What are you using to adapt the Pen F lenses to the G1? I'd like to see some 42/1.2 shots!
Hi,
I'm sorry for the late reply, I missed your post.
I use one end half of the parts of an extension tube set together with a C-mount->G1 adapter. It owrks fine. Recently eBay seller jinfinance announced a dedicated adapter.
The 42/1.2... yes, I wish I had one. You can find some samples in this thread over at GetDPI and also a slightly misfocused portrait furrther down in the same thread.
Yes, you could have done that - and still can; make a new post here, please make direct links so the images show up and let us know what lens(es) that came to use. If they are "admirable" that is... most stuff goes...
I'm finding the smooth buttery bokeh of the Sigma 50 wide open to be too "blurry" sometimes. It seems to transition from sharp to blur in a flash. Too quickly perhaps?
#1. This shot was at f2.8 to get some definition in the background:
That's the same reasoning I used to keep my Zuiko 50/1.2 or the Rokkor 58/1.2 I had. I also preferred the more natural color from the Zuiko.

Hmmmm .... different strokes for different folks I guess. I prefer the "less busy" and smoother bokeh of the Rokkor. Having said that, I will probably keep the Canon FL and sell the Rokkor. As a normal lens, the Canon is more practical as it gets very sharp from f2.0 and I can focus to infinity. The Rokkor is only sharp from f2.8 and you cannot get infinity focus on FF which bothers me quite a bit.
