I'm using a comparable machine... the Dell Mini9. And I love it! I actually have two, because I wanted to order a spare battery and a second ac adaptor and the price came to more than half of what the whole computer sells for! So I bought the second machine. I also got ram and SSD upgrades from another supplier so now the machines have 2gb ram and 32mb storage. When I need extra storage (like for off-loading photos from my cards) I have a couple of USB 250gb drives that I just hook up.
Rob Galbraith did a review of screens recently and he uses a Mini9 as well. I wouldn't dream of installing PS on it, but for what it's designed for, it's a pretty great machine. Check it out. ...Show more →
Are your running any sort of photo editing software? I have been looking at the Mini 9 and would probably run LR for quick review.
does the Mini 9 do hardware scrolling because the vertical resolution isn't high enough for LR and there are many PS dialogs that won't fit in anything less than 768 vertical.

If you are going to run something like LR2 do any of these ultra mobiles meet the min specs? screen res needs to be 1024x768
My brother in law has just got the Samsung NC10 which looks a nice little unit for what he wants it for but the screen spec is 1024x640.
You merely need to set up the graphics adapter to 1024 x 768 and scroll the screen area. OTOH, since you cannot calibrate your laptop monitor, why would anyone do serious LR work with it...you need to do at at home on a calibrated monitor!

Just for reference, I tried the ASUS and decided the keyboard was too small so I returned it and then purchased a Lenovo X61. After finishing a one week trip with the X61, here are my thoughts...
-To save on weight, I opted for the smaller battery. This was a mistake. I only have about 2 hours and ended up wishing I had more.
-The portability and size of the X61 are outstanding. The keyboard is excellent as well. Very usable.
-The screen that came with mine is awful! I can't judge anything but composition and sharpness. If there is a screen upgrade, I would consider this.
-With the dual core processor, this machine is faster than my desktop at home. (I guess it is time to upgrade the desktop! )
Overall I am very happy with my choice but I would make a few changes per above.
Being a thinkpad user for years and having loved the 6x series laptops Id say get the extended duration battery if you are going to be using it on battery power a lot
the T6x series has an absolutely beautiful screen that was an upgrade, I don't know if the X6x series had the same upgrade option but I see the better screen come up on ebay/craigslist every so often as either a replacement part or from someone who upgraded to the better screen.
Otherwise, good choice (imho)! I'm almost a zealot in my recommending thinkpads when people ask, but realize they aren't for everyone. I've been messing with (aka testing) various netbooks for some of our mobile users at work, and while for coffee shop internet use they are pretty nice, I'll keep the extra bulk of my T series thinkpads for having something functional for travel.
