p.1 #1 · Green Heron, a Failed Fisherperson

A green heron from a few weeks ago showing a
dive from the perch sequence.....he came up empty, which
does not happen very often. Last 5 from a slow burst
and pretty heavy crops.

all 400mm f/5.6L and 1.4X TC, ISO 800, 1/1600, f/8, +.33EV,
on the bag and harsh light!

#1 sitting there contemplating leaving,
maybe head north
http://i29./2ljq8sn.jpg

#2 Not leaving, I see somethin' in da soup!
http://i28./rbd62w.jpg

#3 I'm goin' in
http://i25./2z4aadk.jpg

#4 I'm comin' out
http://i28./2ujqpv6.jpg

#5 Whoa, time to re-balance.....WTH, I missed
http://i28./2r28xgw.jpg

#6 I'll just sit here and look content for a while
cuz some dude is still taking pictures.
Those guys up north can wait

Kinda like shoot, cock and reload It is amazing to think that is could have pulled itself back up with that one-foot perch. Great sequence Dave Dang, that is a pretty heron!

Wow I was thinking the same thing !! When he went in and lost one foot off the perch I figured he was going in the soup mix FOR SURE !!! But he actually held on WITH ONE FOOT!!!!! WOW !!!

Great sequence Mr Dave !! Keep up the great work, your absence has been missed!!

I wonder if they have those inner eye lids Dave, by your shots it seems they never close their eyes as the enter or exit the water, I wonder if they actually look under the water too?

Dave -
Nice sequence. And the additional shot provided later, as well.

Not just great captures, but educational too, Dave. I learned about the membrane which I wasn't aware of before. Thanks, Larry

Dave, I haven't even seen a Green Heron this year and you seem to have an abundance of them. Either that, or this is your pet Great series. I've looked at #3 then #4 several times - it's already been said, but it's astounding why this dude didn't fall in. Great colors, wonderful detail comps. Really nice work. Still wondering how he can see fish through the green stuff...

Hey Dave,

I've finally seen one in real life - - It was flying over my head but it was one for sure. Unfortunately there was no way for me to get a shot of it.

Anyhow, these are great - - Wonderful sequence

Great sequence of very good action shots, Dave. Amazing how they stay clean after a dive like that. Beautiful detail.

Thank you friends
and Lil, glad you finally got to see a greenie.
Maggie and Lou, I have sat for hours and watched these guys pull
out fish from below the duckweed and slime.
Socrate, it amazes me that the white egrets stay clean in the very same muck

Great sequence... Membrane or not, I'm not sure how he sees anything moving around in that mix.
