As someone that didn't think this was real (judging from the first printed material I saw and having been exposed to every rumor/fake PS hack job/nonsense post), this looks real. I guess it REALLY will be released tomorrow (or actually it's already July 1 in France, so today for them).
My French is rusty, but it doesn't require more than a quick scan for numbers to understand that it looks like it's a D300 with a FF sensor, just like everyone said it would be...
Still waiting to see the US price, but Nikon should have a decent camera on it's hands.
So I went to Bestbuy today to look at laptops with my woman. As we were there, I went to stare at the D300... Low and behold... ITS GONE! The guy said they were not carrying it anymore. So I asked about a replacement....but he stumbled as he said he didn't know of anything.
I did believe the rumors, but this seems kind of weird...
Kind of makes sense they did not call the latest grip for the DXX series MB-d300....

First of all, the D700, if it exists, does not replace the D300. Secondly, if Best Buy isn't carrying the D300 anymore, it's because it's simply either out-of-stock or because it's too expensive a camera for Best Buy to be selling. And if they're not selling the D300, they won't be selling the D700 or anything like it.
However, the D300 is available on the BestBuy website and marked as shipping within one day. The site does say that there is limited availability in stores, so they may have decided not to sell this at retail and only on the site.
There's no way that the D700 will supplant the D300 in Nikon's lineup. Partly because of price point, but also because of the higher pixel density of the DX sensor.
They would be complementary in many people's bags, I think.

BINGO. They will co-exist very very nicely. I couldn't go without the D300 and the DX "reach", but I can do without the D700. Others may have the opposite situation. But I guarantee lots of shooters (maybe myself included) could see a real benefit in owning them both as complimentary bodies. Hmmm... one for sports where I need the reach and one for closer stuff, and also a better option for weddings, portraits, etc etc. I like it.
Also, how cool is it to be able to interchange one MB-D10?
