That is something that could be implemented. We could eliminate the ability for members to vote for their own photo. Is that something we want?

The WA and MA assignments will get a new upgraded and dedicated system. Many changes will be made but the purpose and goal of the assignments will be maintained. I should post a list of changes soon.

Hi Fred

Could you please also put the period of the assignment (ie 30 June to 6 July). Often the deadline is extended a week (and sometimes more) thus I am unsure when the actual first day of the assignment was.

I have often suggested in the past that one should not vote for one's own image as the results are often skewed.

Yes, that will be fixed and be exact by the minute! No more extensions or delays. The code will be very precise in this regard. Once the assignment deadline is reached, participants won't be able to submit entries anymore. The next assignment will automatically start.
Best,
Fred

I say vote for the best even if it's not your own.

If I am interested in checking out the exif data of an image, I first have to download it to my desktop (or somewhere on the computer), and check the properties (details) there. I think it is helpful if you can see the exposure, camera type, lens, and, aperture of an image one likes. A good way to study, and learn.

Keep shooting!

That's why we are voting to have the exif intact when the image goes up on the web. So you won't have to do that anymore and also check the date the image was taken as well. To see if it falls with the WA or MA time frame. People still don't get it. It is a sad thing happening all over America, no one pays attention anymore. Tis tis tis.

It just occurred to me that the EXIF data could be displayed with each image. Perhaps Fred could have it pull select fields, and if someone wanted more info they could use an external viewer.

It seems the majority of the images submitted to the WA do have their exif data intact.
I believe that unless some special software is set up to display the data along with the image in text form, It seems like the viewer would still either need to use the exif viewer or download the picture to their computer to be able to see the camera data. The way my computer is set up (windows Vista), when I right click an image to view properties, I can see the date, and file size, but not camera data, even though I know it has been uploaded to the web, embedded in the image file (by first checking through one of the above methods). It is always a bit disappointing to see that an image was not saved properly, so the exif data does not show up upon checking. The new rule would solve that problem. Am I wrong about how we would have to access the exif data if the (exif data only) rule is enforced?

Well, I did it. I voted for my own pic. To my defense I can say that not only I voted for it. Many did. In fact it is currently shares the first place with another pic. The only thing that worries me is that I never voted for the pic that won the first prize. Every time I picked the shot I liked best, it never won.....

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

It's kind of a theoretical question anyway, I mean, one vote likely won't swing things. Seldom are the votes all that close, there is usually one entry that kind of runs away with it.

I know that but you need to look at this week's WA.

Current first place: 17 votes.
Current second/third place: 16 votes (X2).
Current forth place: 15 votes.
Current fifth place: 13 votes.

I got no fingernails…..

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

P.S. I know, it does happen at times but it's the first time I have a real chance of winning the first place. I hope you don't mind that I share my excitement and nervousness with you all.

By one vote? Last I looked, you can still cast only ONE VOTE. Unlike chicago, where even the dead vote, and the election day slogan is "Vote early; vote often; but vote.
