I tested really early t max 400 and rodinal ( I had access to a densitometer at the time) after reading an article in Darkroom Techniques about it. I'm sure they have changed the emulsion. I found in my tests that with the right agitation and dilution at 1:50 it had more of a straight line toe kinda like tri-x pro 320 in a very weak dilution of HC 110. ( IIRC Adams referred to that dilution as dilution C? it's been a long time LoL). The key to t-max films for me, because of the thick emulsion base, is enough agitation. When I first started processing it I was having trouble with skies and uneven development because I was agitating the way I would tri-x. I found by increasing my agitation that seemed to help that problem. I would recommend trying rodinal 68 degrees for 12 minutes with 4 inversions every 30 sec. If its to contrasty back down to 10 min (I think that the recommended time). If it's still to contrast try 2 inversions.

From a roll I shot in Montana that went missing for the last twenty-five years, and only recently unearthed. TMX on an RZ. Lens is probably the 210 4.5 APO for the clouds and something shorter for the band, but does it really matter. This is just what it seems to look like practically every day in the summer up there. I was shooting a CD cover for the band Montana Rose and couldn't ignore the scenery.

Got a Busch Pressman D a few weeks ago and my first shots were showing a massive light-leak.
Somehow the spring-back is acting strange (to me, the former owner used this camera exclusively with a Polaroid-filmholder and maybe he had the back modified), but I've found a workaround and was eager to try it out.

Shot a few sheets of Agfa APX 100 this evening. Composition is mediocre at best, but the camera worked this time and the development in a Combiplan-tank too.

The old Xenar-lens is not exactly a lens made for still-lifes, but I'm pleased with it's rendering so far.
Busch Pressman D, Xenar 135/4.7 at about f/5.6, about 1/15sec.,
Agfa APX 100 expired in 2003, Rodinal 1+50, sorry for the crappy scan

I think I need to get some Rodinal for my Agfa film. I dislike the results I get with D76, unless I am developing it at 65F or colder.

I took the dogs on a 20+ mile hike 3 weeks ago. A beautiful hike but long and strenuous. The mountain laurel was blooming and the temperature was perfect. Nice views of the gulf below. Just took the lowly Nikon fg20 and 2 lenses with me, the series e 50 and 28. 2 rolls of gold 200, a roll of proimage 100, and a roll of c200 came along for the ride. Shot the first 3 rolls and just a few frames of the last. Also had my xa4 with some kentmere 400 loaded for which I also tooks some shots (will develop later this morning). Here are a few from my journey.

old railroad bed, the "dinky line."

I am glad to be posting these images. As you can see there were some high bluff overlooks. On one of these overlooks, there was a sloped side leading down to a better vantage point. There was old pine needles on the ground and some large loose rocks as well. I was trying to decide where to put my feet and get down to the overhang for a better look. My feet came out from under me, I went up and landed hard on my ass. I quickly began sliding down to the edge about to go over. This all happened in less than 2 seconds. I saw a lone little pine tree growing out of a crevasse in the cliff edge. I stuck my foot out and slammed into this 4" diameter tree. It held and stopped my 250lb body and pack. I didn't think, I just reacted. Saw an opportunity to not go over and lose my life. I picked myself up, noticed I broke my watch (landed on my wrist along with my ass) and walked off. Then it hit me, I almost lost my life. I almost went over the cliff 10 miles from a ranger station. I had not seen anyone all day. I realized this has happened twice in the past year. I realized God might be trying to tell me something. I realized I need to be much more careful around cliff edges.

Kevin, Rodinal works best at colder temperatures too. I just prefer to use one-shot developers now and the old Agfa APX 100 in Rodinal is a proven combo. I had pretty good results with (the old) APX100 in diluted Xtol too and also in Diafine. At least APX100 should do well in D76, what exactly are your reasons to dislike this combo?

Btw, the new APX 100 seems to be Kentmere 100 or at least a very close relative.

Jon, that's quite a scary story. Good to see you here, writing it down…

Dan, all that shiny metal is calling for medium-format. Nice shots, I like the last one the most.

I don't really have a more accurate way to describe the output other than mushy. Grain is large and splotchy. Detail isn't great either. Colder does better, but takes longer.

I have the same results with Arista film. It comes from Czech Republic, so I think it's safe to say that Arista = Agfa.

Hi Kevin, the Arista-film is probably rebranded Fomapan (Foma is located in the Czech republic). As far as I know Agfa doesn't make B&W-film for general use anymore. Maybe traffic-surveillance-films or dedicated films for aerial cameras with an upped red-sensitivity are still being made by Agfa.
The old Agfa APX100 and APX400 were the last "real" B&W-Agfas.

I loved the results I got from Foma 100 in Rodinal. I just don't like the base-material in 120-format and use Foma 100 now only as sheet-film (it's really cheap over here as sheet-film).
At least Fompan 100 will benefit from a "rich" exposure (shooting it as 64/19° as example) and work especially well with higher diluted developers. The distinct reciprocity-failure ("Schwarzschild"-effect) of Foma 100 can be a problem for shooting evening- or night-scenes.

You are right, I was thinking Fomapan... You are also right about reciprocity failure on that film. I shot some 400 at 1600 and the results were awful. Hot spots and enormous, blotchy grain on every shot.

Put on the water shoes and went for an afternoon wading down stream at the local state park. It has been dry (well it was, very wet now) so water levels were down. New (to me) Nikon ft2, Nikon 28/3.5 w/ yellow filter, expired 2007 fp4+ rated at 60, hc110 dil h, pakon, lr5. Results were very dense but was able to fix this pre-export with the PSI software from the pakon (reduced contrast -25). The roll was probably fine at 125 but you never know with expired film. The last roll of this seemed a bit thin. Very little editing in LR5.
