Yes Peter, all the time The Oly XA however does not allow for filters as it has no filter rings. I usually have a filter on my slr's when shooting B&W, yellow or orange. Red when I want to really darken the sky's. I realize the above shots showing the sky would have benefited but I was out on a long motorcycle ride and that is what I had with me (along with a oly mjuI loaded with c-41). I do need a green filter though for when I am back in the woods shooting waterfalls/streams and foliage. I tend to use the "digital" green and yellow filters when converting color digital to B&W and more of my "serious" work is shot on digital. My personal stuff all goes on film and shared with all of you folks
Jon - I carry a roll of black paper tape and if I don't have the right size filter or a lens with no threads, I'll tape the sucker on - the front, the back, wherever. Actually, if you're using a view camera, putting a filter on the back of the lens if perfectly viable. We would take a piece of tape several inches long, fold it in two the long way with the sticky side out, then wrap that around the outside of the lens with the folded surface sticking just out in front of the lens - like maybe half a millimeter or so. Then all you had to do was stick a Wratten Gel filter or even a glass filter to that tape.
The successful songwriter Kostas Lazarides (sp?) at his cabin outside of Bozeman, Mt. He wrote most of the early hits for Patty Lovelace and collaborated with Dwight Yokum as well. A country songwriter with a rock and roll heart. Kodachrome, of course. Nikon camera and lens, but who keeps track of that stuff anyway.

Great suggestion I may use on another camera. However, I am not sure viable for the oly xa. This is a rangefinder, the worlds smallest. Smaller than a minox gt that is opened. The clamshell design is only about 1.5mm from the lens when closed and all around the lens is the focus lever and iso selector so tape has nothing solid to hold onto plus one would be unable to focus. Maybe on the inside. Here is a link that shows the camera. http://www.diaxa.com/xa.htm
Of course one could get inventive however that would defeat the purpose of having such a carry anywhere camera.
Yes, I see your point. It would be a pain in the butt to open the camera and re-outfit it every time you want to shoot. I guess, in theory, you could tape a gel filter over the entire opening, but it's probably not worth the effort.
"Indeed, she can. Earlier today, I was watching some you tubes of her duets with Vince Gill. As they say, 'music hath charms' and all that."
It says you're from College Station, Tx., a part of the country that has great taste in music. Robert Keen and Lyle both went to school there. English majors.
"Peter, have you tried using K7 inks to print your beautiful B&W images?"
Wayne - prior to getting my first large format printer I did have a few black and whites printed with a seven ink carbon pigmented ink inkset, but I can't remember which inks were being used. Since then, I've been very happy using the three blacks on the current crop of Epson's. If I was doing a huge volume of that type of printing, I guess I could convert the printer, but I kinda need it to print color right now. But a thoughtful suggestion all the same. Thanks.

Yeah, I work at A&M but am a LSU alum. Funny how that worked out. Yeah, both of those boys have a pretty good rep in Aggieland.
All I have are the 35 and 50. I would like to round out my set. The fg20 I have is a beater but exactly what I was looking for. Super compact (especially with the 50) and lightweight. Smaller and lighter than my oly om10. Perfect for backcountry hiking. If I tear it up, no real loss either. The lenses are quite good surprisingly. Not the best built but I am not after that. Just need something that is lightweight and shoots good.

The only one I wouldn't get is the 28/2.8. Only dog in the line. Not very sharp even at f/8. I had one that was about as perfect a copy you could get...tried out 7...still a dog.
Get yourself a 75-150. Most of them have zoom creep, but sharp enough to cut. It's the only zoom I own.
