Dan, I peruse goodwill's, thrift stores and antiques stores weekly. This was my find of the year. By the way, your E100vs shot above actually looks very natural, realistic. Granted a stark contrast to velvia. Just a different color palette.
Wow Peter! 45 yrs of visiting the Eastern Sierras is amazing. I have a special place in my heart for the Owens valley as I spent two years just out of college in Ridgecrest. I went from the forests of Connecticut to the lunar moonscape of the Mojave. Just came across some film images from my one and only hike to top of Mt Whitney. I still go back every year for fall color and a few years ago I did a night photography workshop at the Pearsonville junkyard. It was surreal shooting there in the moonlight. A place I remember going to with my girlfriend there when the dirt track racing was still going on.
So msny places I still have not been but are on the list like the Bristlecones and Bodie. I wish I had a cabin there in Upper Summers meadow or Dundenberg meadows. Just so beautiful there in the fall. I like the Schadts bakery in Bishop. Was surprised that the Whiskey Creek had closed last year. Love the Whoa Nellie deli in LV. Need to shoot the Bristlecones this year !
Dan, nice images of the dogwoods in YV!
Did not make it there this year. Seems like they leafed out early this year. I like it when thr trees just have the blossoms and no leaves but i t seems that did not happen this year. My one in my yard did not even blossom this year probably due to the unusually warm weather.
Wayne - I never ever get tired of going there. I'm glad you mentioned Whoa Nellie's. Who'd ever think the best food in Lee Vining was at the Mobil station. But Bodie Mike's in town there is good too. OK. Time for a trip.
From my first ever roll of BW film - TRI-X pushed 2 stops. I brought the blacks down a bit to get rid of a bit of "fog" in the scan. I'm still on the fence about having this much grain. Any other recommendations for a BW film with bit less grain when pushed??

The amount of grain in this image is not bad at all. I would not have thought much about it had you not mentioned it.
For ISO1600 I typically use Ilford Delta 3200, developed in DD-X. Remember, Delta 3200 is an ISO1000 film and can be set at many different ISO values. I almost always set the camera at ISO1600 and then develop the finished roll at one stop higher, in this case ISO3200. This is recommended because the film is very low in contrast. Developing one stop higher than shot helps boost this contrast nicely.
Stunning images on this page everyone

May have posted these already but was scanning some other Nikon F4S pics last night and discovered these again. From a local airshow two years ago. Same Nikon F4S w/100mm telephoto lens, Acros100 probably souped in Rodinal.
