Well, I finally got through my first roll of film and started on my second. That means I will be needing to develop soon. Can any of you recommend any good tutorials on scanning with the Nikon 5000 film scanner? I know there is some software that people say to use (Colorslide or something like that) but I don't have the cash to buy that right now. I am primarily going to be shooting B/W with the occasional color roll. For the color ones, I will probably have the developer scan them for now.
Kwoodard, Nikon Scan 4.0 software is doing the job perfectly. I am using it on a Coolscan V. My only two advices might be :
- to scan in .NEF because it's easier for adjusting white balance in PS when necessary
- to grab a Nikon fh-3 film holder that helps for curved films.

I am on Windows 7 64bit, so the Nikon software won't help. I have been trying to get it to run in a virtual machine, but haven't been successful yet. I have the film holder.

I am on Windows 7 64 bits too and the good news is that it works ! It should even works on Windows 8 !
Just download Axel Rietschin driver. From memory I had problems with Nikon Scan 4.03 (maybe I did something wrong). With 7 64bits simply install the driver and it should be ok. If problems uninstall/reinstall Nikon Scan 4.0 then the driver.
How could I compare digital to film viewing them on my iMac or Note 3? How could I differentiate them period? Pardon my lack of knowledge, but I really need to understand!
