I'm guessing Ryan exposed for the shadows and let the highlights go.
Neg film has more dynamic range than transparency but doesn't tolerate underexposure.

In truth, I was setup for brighter light shooting at F8 & 1/500, I just cranked the lens wide open and pressed the shutter.
A few from a recent trip to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Left my D800 at home and just took a few rolls and my Nikon F5 with a 85/1.8G. All this shots are from a Kodak Tri X 400 film pushed to ISO 1600. Processed and scanned at home as well.
Here's a couple with expired Konica Centuria Pro 400, on a Zeiss Super Ikonta IV.
Changed the office shot to black and white, because of the diffent types of lighting.
