Wow .... looks like film is still alive and well! I could never go back to film although I miss looking at Velvia slides when they come back from the lab. However, I think looking at the new high-def 3" screen on my soon-to-receive 5D Mk II should be a bit like looking at a 6cm transparency on a light table .... maybe even better!
I'm a bit uncertain about this scan as Silverfast doesn't have a negafix option for this film yet. I used the UC100 option. I also tried the local walgreens for processing. I've been unhappy with my local pro lab's film handling due to scratches. I was really unhappy with walgreens. The prints from their frontier machine were streaked and they put an unholy number of scratches into my negatives.
Ultra Color 100 version of the same shot. Seems the processor was running short on photoflo. Lots of water spots on this image.
This was also on ultra color. The body was an EOS 300 with a Vivtar 100/2.8 M42 lens shot wide open. This was the first time I've used this lens and I like it alot.
So far with all of my C-41 film experiments I've found that the only color negative film I've liked for grand landscapes has been Fuji Superia Reala 100 and for intimate landscapes I like Portra 160NC and hopefully 400NC since I now have 50 4X5 sheets. I find the grain in highlights a bit distracting compared to slide films, but the exposure latitude on these films is very handy. Ektar is indeed the finest grain of the films I've tried, but I ended up with pasty cyan skies. I've got another roll so I'll try again with a better lab. Fuji Reala is the only film that gave me strong blue skies like slide film.
