Carsten: Thank you for the kind words...I have been having fun with film again as of recent. Scanning and CS6 have a learning curve that I am making progress with, albeit slowly. If the winds calm down here tomorrow, I'll haul out the Linhof 4x5 and take a hike into the woodlands for a bit.

Im near going with the awesome fuji GSW690 series fix focal or not, will owners share their work please, and their toils! xD thank you!!
You should have some fun with that "Texas Leica"; hopefully we have some shooters here that can help you out. I almost bought one a few weeks ago while in Reno; by the time I had changed my mind (2 days later) it had been sold at a very decent price (<500.00 USD).

UGH, i meant the Fujifilm Fuji GA645 however they are nice, hmm which which whcih!
the Fuji is more like a Texas Nikon S2 but it's impossible to argue with 6x9 chromes.
exactly, i am still woking out the bugs, so i am just know getting the format sizes, it appears that the larger numbers equal smaller prints?! so then the fuji 645 is smaller?

The easy way to remember it is that the numbers signify the size of the resulting neg. All the Fuji MF cameras use 60mm-wide film, hence the "6", and the 45, 70, and 90, are the lengths of the negs.
Thus a 645 is a 6x4.5 (in cm) camera, a 670 is a 6x7, and a 690 is a 6x9. A Fuji 617, though having the "smallest number" is a 6x17 camera (as large as they come in the MF world).
Larger numbers have nothing to do with smaller prints. It's just that when you go to make a print from a larger neg, you will need less enlargement.

I shall join the weird word world and say wowesome I have a lot to learn. The best way to go at this venture is that I am skipping expensive lens for my Nikon D700 in order to have funds for medium format world even if I need to rely on online printing cos.! I want to have the ability to print larger than normal but cant afford any digital alternative plus it sounds found using analog again. My first analog was a 45 $ canon SLR ftl with a 50mm 1.4 fd lens. The results were awesome for my very first try at slr non point and shoot photography!

I wonder which is the best color film to achieve the lowest grain possible? I assume it would be velvia 50 or equal? Thanks all for your time and thoughts!

nope, Provia 100F is the finest grain I know of.
what do you want to shoot? what size do you like?
I personally like 6x7 and I like the results of the Mamiya 7. If I shot the sorts of things where I could live with the 1m MFD I'd still have one.
everything, and anything shot would be fine, however, i dont know the limitations to expect! i kinda just go in head first whole hog, then i complain!

well I like rangefinders, I really do.
but it's not really a versatile type of camera in my opinion. it's very good for shooting normal sized objects at normal distances. if you like to do macro or landscape then I suggest you look at MF slrs even if they are bigger.
personally I struggle with the fact that RF focusing is MUCH easier for me but that I am limited to .7m MFD and the only lens I really want costs >3000 USD.

Ebay fuji 617 is above my price needs so I may skip it and go with the one most affordable to balance it!
Lulz. That's a pretty specialized camera, and the prices are dictated by the fact that there weren't that many of them made.
If you're looking for the largest neg and performance / price ratio, I would take a look at the Mamiya RZ67 line. I used to own an RZ67 II, and that was dream.
In terms of the least amount of grain, Provia and Velvia 100 have an RMS of 8, though Astia was even finer back when you could still buy it (about a year ago).
Here are some samples of what you get in terms of grain... and yes, the Provia shot is a pun....
Astia
and a crop (these are with a Coolscan 8000, at 4000 dpi, but down sized to ~6000x7000)
