corposant, edk, fix this guys ZI. I watched a youtube video and didn't see anything odd with rewinding film. good luck joanlvh.
It's more or less a mechanical camera - you need to push the silver rewind button and then crank the film back into the cartridge. There's nothing electronic that would prevent the take-up spool from releasing. Either the button isn't pressed, or you're not cranking the right direction, or it's somehow broken.
thank you for your thoughts, I think the silver rewind button may be broken, although it will push in, it will then slip back out if i hold the camera upright and the crank does nothing, it is obviously not engaging what is the silver buttons roll in the rewinding, does it release the film or?? thanks again joanlvh

it releases the clutch mechanism so the the take up spool can rotate freely.

Zach - here's another 100 speed slide film to complicate things:
Mamiya 7 + 80mm + E100VS (Expired 2007)
Mamiya 7 + 43mm + E100VS (Fresh) I saw some comparisons of that film as well. It does look great! Hard to go wrong with the films these days, imo. I am definitely set on Velvia though.

The rewind button may sometimes pop out again after you start rewinding, so make sure that it is pressed all the time during rewinding. I see it mostly happens when I shoot beyond the 36th frame and the film advance lever does not go all the way.
Most important thing, do not force anything, everything should function smoothly. If the rewind crank does not move, do not put more pressure.

Question. Have you shot with or have an opinion on the Bessa R2?
No - if I were going to buy another RF to complement my ZI, I'd get an R4A, so I could have a .52 VF magnification for WA lenses. The ZI is kind of a best in breed if you ask me - the longest RF base length and the best VF in the biz. That said, I don't think Bessas are bad cameras - they are produced by Cosina.

I am sure he's a great guy, but I am pretty sure we saw Eric Kim a few pages back.
Oops I must have forgotten that, sorry about that! Let me correct my post with something more recent then.

Cool Dia De Los Meurtos type art!
Okay, whatcha think about the Contax G2?
Awesome optics, finicky autofocus, service until 2016 thru Kyocera, overall an amazing value. Contax G lenses are very popular in the adapted to NEX/m43 world, though they were not meant to be manually focused.
The only downsides are that it's a camera with a lot of electronics, and it's also a "dead" system. M lenses have an (expensive) digital path, whereas Contax is pretty much out of business.
